I get Max has been kind of on the scummy side for years and everything from the Kickstarter to that awful podcast thing that tanked his image for a lot of people. But shit happens. I mean, In the span of the last month, I have been attacked by a dog, broke my hand, got covid, and then lost my job over it. And I'm too high to fully articulate this probably, but if Max says he has a family emergency, that's probably not the time to try and talk shit about him? There's a line between criticizing someone and not showing them basic empathy.

I don’t remember too many people coming to Buddy’s defense about cancelling the SF tour. Max has quite the track record of not being the most honest dude in the scene. These assumptions are the least surprising thing on this site.

My two cents is that on one hand, Max has lost almost all credibility. On the other, there are a million things that could’ve happened that qualify as a “family emergency” so…

  5. All I know is, if I was publicly talking shit and doubting whatever this emergency is and it wound up being really serious, I would not feel great about myself! Not everything harkens back to the Kickstarter or the podcast or whatever. I don't know how understanding that is the same thing as defending those things.

He probably shouldn’t be touring considering his recent behavior. I really hope his family is OK considering the troubling things that have been going on. He doesn’t owe anyone an explanation, but obviously people are going to speculate given everything that’s been going on with him over the past few years.

Odd. It wasn’t private this morning. Apologies.

Not sure what the sub itself is, I just stumbled across the link on Twitter. Judging by the sub’s title, I imagine it’s… uh… not good.

  9. Yikes. I wonder if anyone got screenshots before it went down.

Video is a clip of max ranting on stage about the “look” the guy gave him.

It’s a private sub, I have access to it / am a member. There’s a lotttttt going on in that but to give the quick summary, there’s alleged abuse from Max, it’s rumored the tour was cancelled due to an ongoing CPS investigation, a lot of questionable and dangerous parenting from them, etc.

Edit: the tour was canceled because “they weren’t prepared”

Hoping Max stays out of the spotlight and does what he needs to do for his family and his mental health.

    This is sad.

Yeah he needs to focus on his mental health and family. I get that his music is his way of making a living, but family/mental health should always come before money. It’s such an awful situation and I’m hoping the best for all involved.

I feel slightly bad for Max because music has been his entire career since he was like, 19. As far as I know, he never graduated college, so his employment options are probably heavily limited. Same thing with Sherri. But they need to figure something out because they've been trying to pull off this DIY musicians thing for years and it has done nothing but destroy their public image, making this whole mess worse. At this point, I genuinely think they've done too much damage to themselves to ever have a full career in music again. I don't think there are enough people left who will support them. But then I feel kind of bad because it feels almost like if I'm not supporting their music, their kids will be even worse off. But then I'm also contributing to this toxic shit? This just sucks. I really hope they are able to work through their shit, but they've literally just been doing the same dumb shit for years and expecting it to suddenly start working and for their kid's sake I hope they can get it together.

I don't really follow this band and have only listened to them briefly prior but do they just...not school their kids at all? Like not even homeschool they just don't have their kids enrolled in any school program whatsoever? I know "unschooling" is a thing so I guess that is what they are doing?

From what I just read on the subreddit, apparently the kids have no structure in their life. No school, no bedtime, no "obligations", etc. which all I have to say is...I hope the kids end up okay in all of this. I can't imagine growing up with no structure in your life and how it may affect you in the future.

The education, or lack there of, of their kids is one of the things that irks me the most. As far as I’ve heard, they don’t really school them. I don’t want to get into too much detail about my childhood right now, but I did not get a real education and it has made my life significantly harder as an adult. Sure, if their kids want to go into a creative field they might be fine. But what if one of them wanted to be a doctor, or a scientist or something? Their lack of education will make it damn near impossible to function in a majority of fields as an adult. They are literally taking their kids out of even having the chance at a normal life once they’re adults.

That's so strange. Can you even go to high school without first completing K-8? It really does seem like they are setting their kids up for failure, or at the very least a life of instability and an uphill battle to thrive in society with no schooling. I hope whatever happens that the kids end up okay and are well taken care of.

They call it “unschooling” which personally i think is fucked up. But it’s to the point where they don’t teach their kids basic hygiene like brushing your teeth and brushing your hair, Sherri’s anti-vax but let’s her literal toddler drink Diet Coke and the children drink coffee, the list goes on. I mean these are just basic things that you should do as a parent… it’s really sad.

Asking not because I don't believe it, just out of curiosity. Where is this coming from? Like who is posting this? Sounds like a whistleblower kind of situation happening with someone close to them (as they should, if I knew someone was doing this I'd be trying to let everyone know)
