    Things have changed.

Maybe the lamest shit I've ever heard.

Way lamer than any of those bands aping Blink two decades ago.

  2. It definitely seems like he’s ripping it off entirely. I do quite like it but that’s the most direct copy of a band I think I’ve ever heard.

    It is good though.

If you want to listen to someone literally cosplay as another musician, knock yourself out.

  6. It did scratch an itch that I know SA can’t give me anymore though! Will check out the album when it comes out

I mean, Max hasn’t released music this good since at least the S/T so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You can be inspired by stuff without, like, mimicking the way someone breathes while singing. This is very weird to me.

Hey at least I don't have to feel kinda weird and gross listening to that band, can't really say the same about SA after everything from the manifesto and the Oliver Appropriate release cycle up to now

  13. It's funny, my brother just showed me the band An Angle that used to be on Vagrant(?) back in the day and when he told me they were a Bright Eyes ripoff band...I could not have prepared myself. Dude was mimicking Oberst's affectations to a T. Bizarre stuff.

  16. Damn, that band even did the "Hey, hey!" thing lmao. First song was cool but idk if I can do a whole album of that.

    Definitely a S.A. copy

he had a song on one of his earlier albums that really sounded like Max.

    Honestly, I'm here for it.

What in the hell lol Say Anything didn’t even rip off Is A Real Boy this hard

kind of fun though. I'll listen to the album, I just won't be able to take it that seriously

Obviously the manifesto, and the OA rollout were gross. Though Max was going through some serious stuff around the time. Also the concept of Oliver is still very problematic I know, but I can turn it off when I listen to it. Which I’m sure isn’t a good thing.

    Not newbie, I think Supporter

Say Anything was my favorite band and most influential band in my life. But I say that past tense. I don't have a problem with newer bands coming around mimicing stuff. There was a band Shining Through that were Say Anything-ish but I really dug. New generations of listeners can pick into things they may have never had otherwise. A bunch of bands came after sounded like them that I love. Saying that, I was pumped to listen but after the HEY HEY's I was like okay this is more creepy than enjoyable lol. I'm open to being on board but I'm not quite sure.... no reason for hate imo, just don't listen.

For example: Manchester Orchestra, All Get Out, ManDancing all have that same soundish, but they're all still their own sound.

Below is a band that "sounds like Say Anything" but isn't creepy. They have two recent songs and I really dig. Know nothing about them. Let Down, Get Down was one of my most played songs last year and it was the only song they had out at the time.

Hey that’s my buddy Damian’s solo project! I posted it when the first song came out but didn’t think many folks listened. I’ll have to tell him someone mentioned him out of nowhere on a forum, he’ll be excited. He definitely likes Say Anything but doesn’t care to sound like Max.

  24. The blatant mimicking of Max’s voice is a weird choice BUT those two songs in the videos above were actually pretty great. I’ll check out more shit.
