I do like 9 a lot but I probably enjoy IDOTG and S/T more. Can’t Slow Down also would go behind those actually
Looked over those revised In Defense tracklists and saw a severe lack of respect for “About Falling”.
Matt Skiba almost ruins About Falling for me, but otherwise it’s a certified banger. maybe my least favorite feature of the whole album
Could never get into STD. One of their songs helped inspire my all time fav though so I can appreciate their existence at least.
Through Being Cool and Sound The Alarm are absolute bangers. Is A Real Boy and Self Titled are bangers. All the other ones mostly range from great to good.
IARB is the only Say Anything album I think is great start to finish, whereas Saves The Day have multiple albums that are great start to finish.
Yeah IARB is the end of the line for consistently good SA albums, and IDOTG is the end of the line for ‘good’ SA albums.
IARB and self-titled are really the only albums I listen to Just not even close discography-wise to STD for me
Self-titled might be more consistent, but I still think I prefer Anarchy as a whole, and I know I'm in the minority there. "Burn a Miracle," "Night's Song," "Peace Out," "Overbiter," and "The Stephen Hawking" are all great SA songs that I have a lot of high school memories attached to. Self-titled obviously has "Cemetery" and a handful of others, but the polish always just kinda takes me out of that record. Then again, Anarchy is muddy as hell, so pick your poison I guess.
This really isn't true, mate. IDOTG is what you get when you can't decide on a direction and just let anything in
I love like 2/3 of IDOTG and probably only about 1/2 of the self titled these days. IDOTG knows exactly what it wants to be, it wants to be huge and expansive and explore a ton of different sounds and I think it succeeds more than it fails.
SA is one of my favorite records of all time, but I am also in the minority of liking Anarchy way more than most. Probably because of the memories attached as well as the bangers you've mentioned.
STD def more consistent but like if Chris sounds like nails on a chalkboard to you there ain’t much that consistency will do to save it for you lol. I can get into them in certain moods (mostly IR and 9 tbh) but other times I just can’t deal. and I don’t think anything they have done comes close to IARB at the very least.
Just coming to say that I equally love both Say Anything and Saves The Day but both bands have also let me down with mediocre albums lol. The last great STD record was Daybreak, in my eyes, and while I know I’m in the minority on this - I actually enjoy most of IDTII.
I also still prefer IARB over Defense but they’re honestly neck at neck. Defense is stellar with just a few filler tracks but IARB is all killer start to finish.
