all gravy! i just know it can be annoying to see the same comparisons over and over. every band on run for cover circa 2012 getting compared to nirvana comes to mind
Yeah, I get that but honestly, if it gets people to stop sleeping on Weatherbox (which it did for me back when), then it can only be a good thing. Then maybe one day everyone will realize that Cosmic Drama is the best album in the world
for my money id say The Ugly Organ is a better IARB but i just like Tim Kasher a sight bit more than Max Bemis as far as songwriting goes that said IARB is an undeniable classic and im feeling a SA session coming on so idk might be annoying and bump this thread throughout the day oh and more people need to check out Weatherbox theyre fantastic
i do too! seemed for a minute there Ben was really trying to get things back on track. i remember him saying he was getting a band together for a full length but i guess that never came to fruition.
I remember checking out that Weatherbox album in 2014 because of the Say Anything comparisons and it mostly just annoyed me. Maybe I'll revisit it sometime and see how I feel now.
For some, maybe, but I don’t think so for everyone ...see Glad you liked it, hopefully you like the rest of the album!
ha, remember seeing Say Anything, Weatherbox, Biffy Clyro, and Manchester Orchestra in 2008 almost 10 years ago. Really fucking good show. After WICGST I yelled "call me max" and he said "no, you call me.... or have your people call my people".
This is a cool interview about the making of IARB. Makes me feel like at some point down the line he's going to release a version of the album as the musical it was originally intended to be. He clearly still cares about it. https://www.avclub.com/say-anything-s-max-bemis-walks-us-through-the-creation-1823362507
I’m kinda glad it never became this grandiose musical. It was their technically first album. It’s just a great punk debut. It stands on its own rather nicely. Also max is crazy saying he would like to re record the whole thing. It’s one of their best sounding albums. Though now that it’s had such a strong legacy I would like to see/hear a rock opera version of it. I just feel it’s overreaching to attempt that on your first album. Kudos to them for attempting tho.
Listening to I Don’t Think It Is and I know I have said this a few times on this site- but this record is actually pretty great. So many great tunes and the drumming is obviously amazing thanks to to Darren. I would encourage everyone to revisit it.
