Debating if I’m still going tonight. I have slight bronchitis apparently. But now I haven’t coughed the whole morning. Decisions....
They are on fire tonight. Idk who is in their live band anymore besides the super tall guy. Though their drummer especially is great. This is probably the most I’ve heard Max talk too. He’s been hilarious. Great crowd too. They’re about to play s/t now. Glad I went.
They also brought a fan up to play drums for Less Cute. It was amazing. I can’t get over how solid they were last night.
You're getting me all kinds of hyped right now. I'm pretty sure it's still Kenny from moneen on guitar. He was there at Riot Fest when they announced Reed was leaving, so I doubt much has changed since then.
Anyone know if this has been consistent with the tour? I can play the shit out of Less Cute on drums.
Hebrews is very solid (almost certainly top three for them), ambitious and imo the album that's likely most representative of the band at this point in their career
I'd be happy if the new album was as good as Hebrews with guitars! I just want Max to try to be melodic on the new album and actually sing coherently.
so a couple months ago i got a very belated phone upgrade, and moved on from my measly 16GB storage. the next morning i decided to download a ton of spotify songs to cut back on data use, and went with the first artists i could think of with enormous catalogs. Say Anything was one and i have developed a totally reborn appreciation for Max over the last little bit as a result. i've always loved the band, it was one of the first "scene" bands i got into because when i was like 14 one of the older kids in my neighborhood would show me bands on the bus. the three i remember are Bomb the Music Industry, The Matches, and Say Anything. the first Say Anything song i ever heard was Slumming it With Johnny, and then he showed me Walk Through Hell and i felt so cool that i knew about these bands, having no concept of the fact they were very popular and on the rise. they felt like secrets i was let in on. anyways, that whole paragraph is to say there's no "new" music by Max i hadn't heard or anything. i'm familiar with the catalog, but putting all of my downloaded songs on shuffle, at least 1 out of every 3 is a Say Anything song. so i'm hearing these In Defense and Bedroom Demo songs in a very different context and it's made me love so many songs i never previously cared all that much for. i really love the hook to The Truth Is... rn for some reason haha. i can very easily put Hebrews as their second best record and the new one may just be my most anticipated.
also it took me another decade to appreciate Bomb at all and the only Matches song i've heard to this day is Chain Me Free lol
Anyone who puts Hebrews @ #2 is a-OK in my book! I think that's one of the great things about SA is that I always rediscover old songs in a new light. Especially if it's a song they play on tour that I'm not as familiar with.
i know. i just never appreciate these bands listening to them so long after their time and it makes me feel bad. i vow to give them a fair shake.
To me they never get old. It's the ten year anniversary since A Band In Hope and I'd say it's their most interesting work.
i love Hebrews, it's such a great album, sometimes the lyrics are just a bit too personal and weird (looking at you, Swastika! Swastika!!!) but they are still much appreciated. i just get very weird looks when i want to play that album at work. hahah.
