Even though I really enjoy it, a lot of songs just don't do it for me. I find myself skipping tracks throughout.
Yeah that's fair. It's certainly the most.....cheesy? Of his releases. Like, every song on the S/T feels like it's nudging and winking at you the whole time. That can certainly turn some off. Plus some people just don't like the songwriting and the styles he chose and I get that too.
I think IDOTG and S/T are both about 60% good. I can deal with that more on IDOTG because there's so many songs so I still end up loving like 16 or so. Plus I think the good stuff on IDOTG is better than what's on the S/T other than "Cemetery".
I'd add Anarchy to this list. I mean, I'd probably say more than 60%, but maybe 60% being great, 20% being good, and 20% being mediocre/forgettable.
That song was all forms of bad haha. Say Anything have had a pretty up and down career when you think about it.
every time I think about Admit It Again, it's an immediate feeling of just wishing it didn't exist at all. I have to think a lot of people agree with that
I forget that song exists (I don't even remember what it sounds like lol) Dammit, now i have to go check it out!
I kinda like "Admit It Again". I heard "Admit It Again" before I heard "Admit It" though. So I didn't get that "shitty sequel" feeling when I listened to it.
Listend to their rarity/baseball collection last night. They have so many great pre IARB moments in their career. Also that 2012 acoustic version of Baseball But Better is good.
jumping in late but: Is A Real Boy S/T Baseball/everything pre-IARB Hebrews In Defense of the Genre Anarchy My Dear I Don't Think It Is I never gave IDTII a fair shot but that's because it immediately turned me off. Maybe I should revisit, but I hated it lol. I'm hoping whatever comes next is more interesting. Weirdly, I feel the same way about Say Anything as I do Panic!, which is that every other album is good (IARB and S/T are great, Fever and Vices are great / IDOTG and AMD are not, Pretty Odd and Too Rare are not) but no matter how complicated my feelings about them at the current moment may be, their overall importance to my life is undeniable.
Too Weird to Live is a surprisingly solid album especially after Vices & Virtues. I think the change in direction really worked to its advantage. Some top 10 Panic moments on that album
I think it's a mostly great album but with none of their best songs and some of their worst. Just like Anarchy, ha. I actually kind of agree about them having a similar catalogue to SA up to that album.
Wow I'm very outside of the collective opinion then haha, I hate that album save for like two songs. And even those two songs are garbage next to anything from Fever/Vices/Bachelor imo.
I get why people might not love the vibe of Say Anything's self titled album, but "Eloise" is one of the best songs Max has written and I'll forever wonder why they chose "Hate Everyone" as a single instead, just as they were starting to get big. Never got the hate for V&V, that was the time period where Panic was really fleshing out their Third Eye Blind influences and they nailed it, especially on "The Calendar" and "New Perspective", those could both literally have been co-written by 3EB.
I don't know whats more cringeworthy, The intro line, the part where he boasts about people listening to his band, When he censors himself or says "new crap rains down" I do feel like the flow picks up good near the end of the first verse, then it falls off again Well my mother didn't raise no fool God, my blood boils at the thought of you, poser Die!
I never got the hate for Hate Everyone. It got me excited at the time and it's in the upper half of the album for me.
