Love it or hate it, the In Defense of the Genre hype on absolutepunk was insane. I was very much caught up in all that.
It sounds better than anything since Hebrews, maybe a tinge better in some ways. I'm just glad that I find the vocals so grating. That constant scratchy scream without any melody is too much for me. I want to not like this band but I also can't look away because it use to be my favorite band. Weird spot. Also, weatherbox rules and I'd much rather hear new music from them than anything max has to say.
Has the track list been posted? Exclusive: Say Anything reveal title and tracklist of their new album
Psyche sounds like it has Fred's hands all over it imo, the verses anyways, very similar to his solo work
I wish I liked this more than I did, it just feels like Max is not healthy and shouldn't be making music and it's not cool it's just sad and weird
I just feel like if I didn't know how Max was acting and I knew everybody involved in this record, it'd be something I'd be excited for but I can't tell if my own mind is tainting my listening to it or if the music isn't really right because of all that or it's just me coming to that conclusion outside of the music itself (if that makes sense lol)
Yea and it's not even like you can separate his actions from the music, it's pretty much directly autobiographical without much tact or allegory. I'm also not excited for it and don't like any of his vocals on these, instrumentally they sound cool tho.
It would be cool if Fred just helped make a Weatherbox record instead. Maybe they've hit it off from hanging out making this and touring.
Thanks for bringing this band onto my radar. I just checked out their two albums today and wow they're great!
What other said they have 3 albums (American Art, The Cosmic Drama, and Flies in all Directions) and an amazing EP Follow the Rattle of the Afghan Guitar which I don’t think is on streaming but is probably their best. The Cosmic Drama is one of my absolute favorite albums but a little bit harder to get into.
