I still love IRAB and I think his tone connotes that we are not supposed to be agreeing with what he is saying. Also, I swear that album has the some of the best sounding guitars I have ever heard on a rock album.
can't say why but i was way more squicked out listening to "property" than almost anything on iarb recently (i know the song is a joke, it's just not a good one). possibly i have really selective listening with iarb
Death For My Birthday is an excellent song. And I love the Modern Baseball cover. This might be a top 5 song from them.
yeah i gotta be honest there are points where it comes close (the bridge of "molly") but... idk, seems way too self-critical in its every expression of desire to ever really reach sexist. i'm also not counting was a real boy at all
IARB doesnt hold up nearly as well as people say it does imo, self titled is a little spotty but has his most mature and realized songwriting on it (mara and me, cemetery, fed to death, ahhh men). while IARB may have some of the most interesting songs (the writhing south, belt, yellow/red cat, chia like), its ultimately very immature both lyrical and songwriting wise and pretty scrappy and raw compared to the polish of self titled.
the most sexist song he ever wrote was property though, and the irony its coated in doesnt make it any better
i'll agree with all of that, but i like some of the immaturity on iarb. also it features extremely little of "max weighing in on rap" which... is not absent from the s/t
Died a Jew is on IDOTG the rapper in the Lexus line is about his love/hate relationship with Kanye which I’m pretty sure most people could understand
hate everyone is the worst song he ever wrote first of all, second of all i still like IARB i just like self titled better. i also like probably half of IDOTG
John McClane into the opening notes of Six Six Six is in the conversation of best moments in the catalog for me. Hebrews has some real duds but overall it's one of my favs. songs like Lost My Touch took a long time to register with me but i adore them now.
I like this take, though the constant energy to the guitars and songwriting on IARB make it work as a record to me a bit more as a whole than the inconsistency on self titled. They’re the only two Say Anything records I’d call good, though Defense has a few solid high points.
all of you that love IDTII so much, its vinyl is $6 at HT: Say Anything - I Don’t Think It Is Vinyl LP Hot Topic Exclusive
