Take off Hate Everyone and Property and you've easily got my fav SA album.

 

This is when he started to lose me. I like Hebrews but decisions like using no guitars on the record and using only acoustic guitars on Oliver Appropriate for seemingly no reason, when those decisions clearly make the songs weaker, are just baffling lol.

 

Idk, I think it definitely makes Hebrews more interesting and helped inspire some of his best songwriting. I just think he was trying to challenge himself and keep things interesting for himself creatively.

 

I pretend Max hasn't put out any new music after Hebrews, which is a pretty weak record anyways.

Can we talk about how Anarchy My Dear is severely underrated?

 

I don't think the instrumentation on Oliver Appropriate makes those songs any weaker

 

I think it’s fun to give each album unique characteristics and don’t think they’re the reason for a perceived lack of quality

 

"Night's Song" is a top 5 SA song for me.

 

I also have a very soft spot for Anarchy, but that's mostly because of when it was released. There are a few underrated gems on there ("Overbiter," "The Stephen Hawking") as well as some stuff that maybe doesn't work so well ("Sheep")

Anarchy was the first time an album came out by an artist I loved and I was just... floored at how much I didn't like it. I've come around a bit on it now, but I remember feeling so weird listening to it for the first time. Night's Song, Anarchy, Overbiter and The Stephen Hawking are jams.

 

I always thought people hated Admit It Again a little too much. I mean I understand not liking it but it has never felt all that disingenuous to me. I know people hate the “crap rains down” part lol. I think Max said around that time that he wasn’t going to curse anymore, anyone remember that?

edit: I forgot how many songs on this album I actually like. I always liked Burn a Miracle and Say Anything (the song). No one ever mentions that one.

I finally listened to the Maxim Mental album today and was surprised by how much I liked it. That said, Max grossly overestimates how much and how often people want to hear his children in his songs, lol.
