I am wildly perplexed that people are feeling this. This is awful. Was my music-idol and favorite band pre-IDTII, can't count how many times I've seen them live but I'm pretty sure I'm passing on the tour. I'm into lo-fi, hip hop too so it's not just a genre thing. Music is subjective, but this is objectively bad unless you just dig whatever max does, which is totally cool too.
I'm sure the tour will be good but yeah this is disappointing. Waiting for the say anything revival already
Of the two solo songs Max has released this year, I enjoyed this new one and hated the first one. I don’t like everything he does, but I still like “Piss King.” I also liked “Varicose Visage” a lot, so maybe I just like when Max sings/raps like this, haha.
God I had so much fun tonight. I’m so glad I got to see some Oliver Appropriate songs come to life. They honestly fit right in with the rest of the Say Anything songs. Still think the album is so good. And I love Sherri and Karl so much I’m very happy they came along
I've been listening to a lot of Max lately and I'm kind of falling in love with his music all over again. Despite some problematic lyrics and behavior from Max, which I do not agree with, he has been such an influence on me and his music is very special to me. I think I've been too hard on it lately, so I've been listening a lot to Anarchy and Hebrews, gonna revisit Oliver soon too I actually really like Anarchy as a record now lol and most of Hebrews is pretty good. Funny how tastes change
Hebrews is one of my favorites from Say Anything. And I honestly think Anarchy would have been better received if Max didn’t hype it up as some big punk rock album.
I love that album, despite the odd production choices. I’d like to hear those songs with a cleaner sound someday.
I still don't unfortunately!! But I wouldn't be surprised if it grows on me, considering how much I disliked the previous two when they came out. And yeah, I don't know what happened with Anarchy. I guess Max hyped it up but I was also still in high school and I am not sure what I was expecting. Admit It Again still kinda makes me cringe lyrically but the song is pretty fun, and every other track is really fun. Songs like Night's Song, Anarchy, Burn a Miracle and Stephen Hawking are up there with some of his best IMO
Hebrews is so good and I hope more people will eventually come around to it. The choice to program the guitars was odd but the songs are really solid and the guest features are a lot of fun.
Yeah Anarchy maybe would have held up if max didn’t call it IARB 2, Minus the Bear, ATDI, Fugazi, and a bunch of other bands that it didn’t sound like whatsoever.
Anarchy was the last decent album SA put out imo. I like a few songs on Hebrews, but going back to it now, I like the album less than when it came out
Anarchy was the first time a band I really love disappointed me. I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when it finished for the first time and I just felt so cheated But here I am now, eight years later, dancing away to it and singing every word
Yeah for me Burn A Miracle, Night's Song, So Good, Peace Out, and The Stephen Hawking are all great and among Max's best stuff, the rest I could take or leave
Anarchy has a handful of great tracks, Hebrews is all great, most of Oliver is too. IDTII is still awful.
I love each album for their own reasons. But I think IDOTG is my least favorite if I had to choose. Don’t get me wrong some of my favorites are on that album, but it’s definitely the album I go back to the least. IDTII has some great tracks imo: Give A Damn, 17 Coked Up Speeding, Goshua, Rum, So Numb, Wire Mom, and yeah I’m even a sucker for Varicose Visage, I think it’s a dope song
I’ll always defend I Don’t Think It Is. Sure, the production hurts the record, but the songs are there and it actually enhances some of the songs (see: So Numb). I think it’s criminally underrated.
Some songs are OK despite the production, but most are pretty shitty songs hidden by shitty production
