i didn't like the acoustic thing too much at first, but it's grown on me, i do like that max does something unique for each album that sets it apart from the rest.
I haven't seen myself go back to this album as much as I thought/hoped I would, possibly due to new releases. I'll hopefully revisit it after the "official" release. That's not to say it's a necessarily bad album, it's just not as good as I got myself hyped up for (as per usual with every SA release)
Yeah say what you will about post IDOTG SA Max has done a great job making each record sound different. For better or worse every SA album has its own feel.
It kills my love for Say Anything. My personal interpretation related strongly to the person I knew on IARB. That narcissistic anger I think a lot of confused late-teens go through spiritually, philosophically, romantically. To hear his disdain for that character, and that this is his thoughts on what he would become. Kind of sickens, lessens that album for me and even the entire band. Then to see his twitter, kickstarter...etc where he just seems out of touch. Oh well. Probably being overdramatic, but I currently have a bad taste in my mouth for my former favorite band. The album is okay but I don't find myself revisiting it.
Put this on repeat and enjoyed it, I might end up trying it again. I definitely won't be skipping it if it came on shuffle. Ended up listening to You, Me & Everyone We Know though. Goddamn I miss that fucking band.
I met Ben twice from ymaewk and he seemed like a cool dude. Once in nyc I went to a show alone and I basically hung out with him all night. Someone even thought I was in the band since we were hanging out and it was a solo show. And then once on at Amityville music hall in long Island. Both times he said he was recently sober from alcohol so I know that was a problem for him. I wish the best for him.
The Front Bottoms is my go to now. i feel like Brian’s singing/songwriting shares that same oddness. at least for me.
I have never been able to give The Front Bottoms proper consideration because of their awful, awful name; but I'm gonna guess I'm in the minority here.
Honestly this is the most I’ve ever thought about their name. What the heck is a Front Bottom? Is it a butt on the front? Haha.
It is a vagina my good man. They picked maybe the worst euphemism for that I've ever seen. They literally pussied out. Still haven't listened to them because of how very awkward that is.
This is probably one of the strangest and silliest reasons I've ever heard to not listen to a band. It's not like they're "Cherry Poppin' Daddies" or something as obscenely straightforward as that. I don't even think about their name. It legitimately goes in one ear and out the other. Just like Farewell Continental, Death Cab For Cutie or Big D & The Kids Table, I don't really give a second thought to it or care about what the name is trying to say, it's just something to me that let's me identify the albums and the music as a whole.
I dunno, it's just always seemed offputting to me for reasons unknown. In any case, I've liked bands with worse names in the past and it doesn't seem to be impeding them. I'd much rather get into them than give the dickhead whose band this thread is about any more of my time, that's for sure.
I still haven't listened to this album yet so I'm very excited for official release date. I love all 4 so far, so I'm really excited to hear the whole thing. Less than 2 weeks!
Listen to Talon of the Hawk now! And then listen to Back On Top which is when they pivot to their newer sound. Really a great band and one of the most fun bands I've ever seen live.
You're right that's only their second best album ;) (Jk though I know that's not the common opinion, though I do believe it)
