I really don't want to start the conversation up again, but I was listening to this album again today and was thinking about how ridiculous and inappropriate the Sherri stuff is. ESPECIALLY when "The Hardest" is easily one of the best songs on this album
This album is weird. It grows on me a ton the more I listen to it. I think a lot of it is great. Max sounds better vocally than he has in years. The production is much better than the past few albums and the melodies are the best he’s done in a long time. At the same time, a huge chunk of the album feels half-finished and like it could be way better. The story he talked about (which is questionable to begin with) doesn’t feel fully realized and I would never have picked up on it if he hadn’t written about it. That makes Your Father feel weird, out of place, and decidedly not like a Say Anything song. Greased and Fired are straight up bad, or at least like the beginnings of ideas and with odd production compared to the rest of the album. A bunch of the other songs feel like they could have been as good as Daze, Pink Snot, Sediment, and a few others if he had fleshed them out more and spent more time on them. Also, Max’s recent shenanigans combined with the fact that he at first seemed excited about this album and then suddenly started to come off like he doesn’t care about the record or even the legacy of the band make even the best parts of this album (which I think are up there with his best work) hard to get behind. I don’t know if I expressed that well but those are my erratic thoughts, haha.
Ya I agree with all that. Then again there are parts of the album like Pink Snot, It’s a Process, The Hardest and Sediment which to me musically are his best since the self titled.
i've only listened to this once so far. not sure if it's because i didn't like it, or if it just felt wrong to listen to a leak that came out so early. :/
They added a kickstarter reward where for $200 you can get a 2 song private facetime performance from Max and Sherri. Honestly considering it that's kind of a cool deal.
Feels like an EP to me, due to the length. I feel like it's a good album but I'm not sure it will hold up as well. I'd come back to a few songs however some songs are only good when they flow in the album. I don't know, i'll need to do a discography run and see if it fits. It most likely will!
