Fair enough. Just didn't want to overlook the fact that our society puts people with mental health issues in an extremely tough spot. Beyond piss-poor health care access, the social implications of having a mental illness is maybe the greatest deterrent folks face when considering treatment options. Concerning the red flags, I gotta say, I'm apprehensive to pull apart this particular statement and make conjectures about what it may mean or allude to, given that his ability to express his thoughts may be impeded. I don't mean to downplay any accountability issues, but it's a factor that should at least be given some consideration.
This is what makes me the most sad for Max. I think he just lets things eat away at him, regardless of how long ago it happened. Criticisms or stupid rumors from 10+ years ago are still bothering him today it seems. I don't think anyone but him remembers/even knows about whatever this is. I have some vague recollection of it but I don't even know if I really do or if I've just seen Max mention it before.
Rumors will always happen when, especially when you have some sort of fame, so it's really rough to see Max hung up on a bunch of internet losers who are just out to start shit.
Max. I think you need to turn the internet off. Read some good books. Watch healthy movies. Write music that motivates you. Being in the public eye is not a good thing and it seems to have taken its toll. The negativity that wreaks from this is filth for the mind. "it's really rough to see Max hung up on a bunch of internet losers who are just out to start shit." He single handedly helped me recognize, cope and motivate me past my own bipolar disorder, which has plagued me as much or more than his has. Finding serenity is a process, but something in his life is too chaotic. I thought "ending" the band was to do this. Now, I think we'll just watch him crumble under this pressure. I am sorry, the people around him have no clue what they're doing. This kickstarter was the absolute worst thing for his mental health. I'll pray for him. I've been thinking I was seeing Max's health going downhill for awhile but his lack of self awareness and self grandiosity, when he's just kind of a guy who was in a rock band once at this point left without a whole lot else. Speaking for the Queer or Emo community? Like, who are you? Some of that angst is cute when you're 19, but he sounds like a confused 14 year old.
That's good. I'm glad their fanbase likes them enough to do it, but I honestly just can't bring myself to do it for the level of quality we've received from him in the past for solo stuff, etc. Especially for some of the absurd prices on those tiers.
Couldn’t care less about the Kickstarter tbh. If their fans really wanna donate to that then that’s on them.
I don't get why people get upset about kickstarters. Like I donated and I know exactly where my money is going. I could care less what they use it for - go buy a house with it if you want - I just want them to keep making music because even if Max can release some not great material, I also know he is always capable of striking gold and I don't want him to not be able to even try anymore.
the idea is that starting the kickstarter in the first place is exploitative but fans could speak with their wallets and just not donate if they feel that way.
does he (or sherri) get more convincing as that kickstarter video goes? i got about 20 seconds into it and max looks like he's ready to take a shit and doesn't even want to be there. although it's not like i was gonna pledge anyway so
The first time I watched the kickstarter video I felt something was off with both of them. Parenting three kids can be exhausting though so I just put it off as that. I don't know now though after seeing this rant. I hope everything is okay in their household and marriage, especially with all of this going on.
I think this was brought up again this year, after the kickstarter was posted but I could easily be wrong. At the very least, they were both being accused of being exploitative with their kids because of the rewards tier. I am still struggling to figure out where I want to be in all of this. I've been thinking about this a lot. As much as I want to back that kickstarter, the tier rewards are ridiculous and I feel like would just put Max in an even weirder and more stressful place. I don't think I want to be part of that. Not saying that those who back are encouraging it, I don't know if I'm in the right or in the wrong. I don't want this to be a fight between who the real fans are. I know we all have good intentions, but different ideas on how to help. But one thing is I'm genuinely concerned for him, and if there was a different way to give help without this gut feeling something bad's going to happen, then I'm all for it.
oh yeah people are always on and off bringing up parenting, but i think the pedophilia ring in specific hasn't been in a while haha. Neither are good things to hear about yourself but that one i guess sticks out more in severity
Man I love Pink Snot. His catchiest song in years, the feel of the song reminds me of An Insult to the Dead, can’t say I love what I’m singing along to but I love singing along to it. He does sound like he’s trying to run his voice into the ground, I don’t hate it.
i didn’t even know about the Kickstarter until today. i’ll probably toss them $8. that’s worth it no matter how they spend my money if even a couple of those songs are as good as the Song Shop songs that were used as S/T b-sides.
Is Kickstarter money treated as taxable income? I feel like that’s one thing the Bemis’ would overlook. Also, with the quality of production we’ve been seeing, I can’t get it out of my head that their fans are giving them a nice middle class years salary for them to sort of dick around and Skype with people. Also, y’all should know, I’m very jaded by the corporate world.
I think it depends how you file your return and crowdfund, but you can probably deduct expenses dollar for dollar on the income, if you're truly spending the funds on business expenses.
Wow I never actually looked at these but some of them seem like... exploitative. There's a $200 "Life Coaching" option from Max. $150 to interview Sherri for 30 minutes. $250 and you'll get a drawing from... their kids.
people know what they’re getting though, the idea is you’re donating and the rewards are bonus, you aren’t necessarily donating just to get the rewards (although many campaigns do use them as reason to get people to donate, doesn’t seem like the case here)
If someone actually spends $200 on a life coach session from Max, then it's worth $200 to that person who made the decision to spend the money. If someone wants to spend $250 on a drawing from their kids, they can. The market will determine if it's worth that or not by seeing if people actually spend on it or not.
If you're throwing in $150+ for this I think it would have to be for the rewards since the music is otherwise free. And sure people can spend what they want, the market is what it is and capitalism etc., but that doesn't mean it's a good product/service/reward/whatever they're getting in return.
