The one thing I did like about IDTII was that it was shadow dropped. Why couldn't he do the same thing with this? :(
Full lyric shirt is a cool idea. Looks like “Sediment” definitely earns its length as the last track at 5+ minutes... it’s like a fifth of the shirt haha
I kinda wanna read the lyrics but I don't wanna spoil the narrative or assume how I THINK the songs will sound based ont eh words.
Never even thought about reading the lyrics. Anyone managed to see them? I'm in work and can't access the Dine Alone Records site.
a January release makes zero sense. January is not a popular release month, I bet the numbers would back me up that winter releases don’t sell nearly as well as fall releases, with the album having been done for a while and max just putting out this big long manifesto or whatever there’s hype and conversation happening around say anything. The music world moves on quickly, very quickly, come January people will have forgotten about all this
But I don't think there's really much point pushing this album. Say Anything hasn't been a huge commercial success since S/T (well I have no idea how well A,MD actually did but I assume). I don't think they're botching it as much as they just don't care about it that much at this point.
Just cus it got pushed back? And do you mean like even the fans will forget about it, or that the experience of the rollout is ruined for fans?
I guess I just feel this is kind of what we get for always digging for little bits of info online from unofficial sources. Max's letter was very careful to not specify a release date. Just cus Amazon or whoever had it up, we all took it as fact but those places have to put some kind of date so they just ran with what they knew.
Because it really seems like they don’t care yeah it’s kind of dicking fans around. We know the album has been done, max clearly released this note with the intention of the album coming out sooner than January. Max is getting dicked around by the label too. I really don’t like record labels and this proves why. Sure die hard fans won’t forget about it but casual fans who otherwise don’t pay much attention? Absolutely they could forget about this.
Labels are so concerned with the exact “right” time to release albums (for absolutely no reason other than to maximize their own profits) they really seem to forget that it’s the fans driving their sales anyway. It’d be a whole different case if it was just a matter of the album being incomplete like the 1975 recently (which was only one month later than the speculated release month anyway). It literally just boils down to the label in this case.
I mean if it's up for pre-order now wouldn't the people buying it for October still be buying it for January?
Yea I guess I'm not thinking about how he's made it clear the album is completely done and ready to be released. And I forget that people have short attention spans. I guess just on a personal level it's not that big of a deal to me
didn’t I just say die hards won’t forget? who besides die hards are pre ordering records in 2018? Hell I don’t even pre order records for my favorite bands
It’s not a big deal to me either as I’m not a huge fan of the band, more casual, but I feel the frustration from people who do care
I just think it's the mix of it being (quite possibly) the last SA album, the date being pushed, the album being finished for so long, tour being canned and the shipping of the merch being as expensive as the merch itself.
I don't know if it's going to make much of a difference in the amount of people buying it is all I'm saying. Like you said the die hard fans are the ones buying it regardless of the release date. Maybe the streaming would be higher in October I don't really know.
This was originally supposed to be released over the summer from what he said during one of the shows I went to so I've already been waiting a while lol
I think numbers would be higher in October just because this little manifesto has picked up steam on a ton of publications that don’t normally cover SA. Will these publications and their readers still be tuned in 5 months from now? Attention spans are shorter than ever in music right now
I agree. and it just sucks as a fan to be hyped up for an album that's finished and then told it's not coming out for 5 months with no logical reason.
