it could easily just be an iTunes mistake. I wouldn't trust that to be the official date, let's not freak out til anything is announced
I just listened to in defense for the first time in years. It was a much more nostalgic listen than I anticipated. I remember watching YouTube vids of max acoustic playing ecstasy, falling, and that is why on repeat for months before that album came out. It kinda made me miss how much I used to love this band.
I wouldn’t take a song off IDOTG tbh. I listen to “Died A Jew” and “Hangover Song” and whatever else ppl say are skippable every time I revisit this bloated 89 minute mess. I’ll agree that some of those songs are lyrically cringeworthy and not well thought out, but to me that comes with the territory of where he was as a songwriter and person a decade ago. Max made a perfect, sloppy, raw masterpiece with IARB, then saw nowhere to go but up and doubled down on trying to make a genre-defining statement as a follow-up. He didn’t succeed, but man I wish more folks would try as hard as he did.
Everyone was posting their favorites from In Defense, and I’ve only seen like one post mention “The Church Channel.” That song rules!
I actually really like Died a Jew musically. The ones I could do without are The Word You Wield, R******d in Love, and That Is Why.
I mean duh any song that has Hayley Williams involved in any capacity is going to be amazing. (For further evidence, see Plea)
Fun fact, I heard and loved No Soul somehow before I ever heard Juicy It’s weird how well it works with that chord progression I know I said like 3 pages ago that the end of Woe was the best minute or so of music he’s written, but it might actually be the end of Plea. The whole “maybe someday we” refrain is a showstopper.
I admire this Steve but my god, do I disagree! People Like You is the best Riot era Paramore song that they never wrote and Tracking Device is the first song I heard from this and I love it.
I don’t really like People Like You except for the bridge it’s one of the most metal things he ever wrote
The Word You Wield is a great break up song but it’s way too half baked to enjoy on other levels for me
I got all excited for this album, waiting until January seems unfair. Why announce it so early? Also, does anyone know why 'In Defense of the Genre' isn't on apple music? It drives me crazy.
I'm honestly going to forget the record is coming out by the time it is actually released. I think it's stupid when people announce way too early/release way too late. My excitement had dwindled.
If I had to narrow it down, I would be this: Skinny, Mean Man No Soul That Is Why The Church Channel Baby Girl, I'm A Blur Retarded In Love People Like You Are Why People Like Me Exist In Defense of the Genre The Truth Is, You Should Lie With Me Vexed About Falling Spores Have At Thee! Goodbye Young Tutor, You've Now Outgrown Me I feel like even doing this you're losing a lot of personality behind the album. I like IDOTG as it is, it's all pretty good. Tickle Me Red should be on there too.
