People Like You Are Why People Like Me Exist, About Falling, You’re the Wanker If Anyone Is, and I Used to Have a Heart are all great too. I think the bloat works aside from 3-5 songs which I’d cut.
I always forget that About Falling is also one of my favorite Say Anything songs. It's so hidden in the second half that I think it gets overlooked a lot, even though it should be one of their most popular songs.
I always heard Nolan but I know he had a thing with him too. there’s an interview or maybe it was on John’s formspring where he talked about it, they dated the same girl and John said something like “Max was mad because he had a sandwich and I took that sandwich” take that as you will I’m sure there’s at least one song about Kinsella tho, maybe even No Soul idk
I remember buying the album in May 2008 (I still have it somewhere downstairs) and it being the album I listened to for most of the summer. There are only 4 or 5 songs that I don’t really enjoy. It’s a shame that it’s not on Apple Music.
S/T wasn't really "negatively" received I think, I think it just didn't sell well because J Records didn't promote it thoroughly, and that fans weren't super, super keen on it. At the time, I thought 8-10 of the songs were fairly good to amazing. I still think that and think it's a good record for the most part. It's also a very polished record and didn't have the "edge" that ISAB had. Those songs do sound less slick and more rawk in that regard. Maybe that's why MB was saying it was a return to form or whatever. Also the same producer was on AMD.
"Sorry, Dudes, My Bad" will always be a favorite of mine off of In Defense. Different album, but I think "Less Cute" is under-appreciated. I remember reading comments about who each song was about 10 years ago, I really wish I could remember them now. Both Nolan and Kinsella seem plausible for "Skinny, Mean Man". I don't think "Vexed" is about Jesse. Jesse and Sherri broke up before 2006, since songs like "Degausser" and "You Won't Know" were about her. By 2007, Sherri had married Chad Gilbert before divorcing later that year, the only thing that's unclear to me is whether those songs were written before that had even happened, since I don't remember when Max and Sherri even began to date. I don't think it's about relationships at all.
iTunes is now listing Oliver Appropriate's release date for January 25th, 2019. EDIT: Date also confirmed in Daze's Youtube video description.
someone ask Max about this on Twitter or something it makes no sense to put out Daze this far ahead of the record release
if I were to cut down IDOTG to a playlist I'd actually return to it'd look something like Skinny Mean Man No Soul That is Why This is Fucking Ecstacy The Church Channel Sorry Dudes, my Bad Vexed About Falling Plea
"Plea" is their best closer easily "The Stephen Hawking" is super underrated and probably my second favorite
That's a huge pushback for the release date. If iTunes has already listed the track lengths then I feel like that must mean the album is fully finished... so where's the logic in waiting five full months to release it? Especially if Max isn't touring on it. Do they think they'll get a solid promotional campaign going between now and then? Not to be a dick but everything about this album seems to be geared toward a niche audience. I can't imagine what a mainstream promotional campaign for it would look like. Could it just be a vinyl pressing delay? That's ridiculous.
I'll update the main post, sucks that it's that far away though. Yeah, people stated this but it was listed on iTunes as this date. Dates change so might still be closer but who knows now. I'm certain Max posted that the album was fully done and potentially even mastered on Twitter so yeah, no idea why it's pushed so far.
