I just heard "I, VIBRATOR" on my Release Radar playlist and did several double-takes on some of the lyrics. Immediately thought "I wonder what chorus think of this..." and ended up reading this entire thread. Your reactions did not disappoint. What a ride. I'm strapping in for the full album release.
i too had tickets to that tour and basically wanted to go out of morbid curiosity. i spent a lot of time defending both acts through most of the 00s and I wish I hadn't.
“Yet soon no kin of Antonoff could kvetch and kvell along its rocky streets Well, I back Jack’s commitment to that band with Simba singing It’s not his fault this bender got in bed with a sex offender When they failed, between tails, a wave of semen grasped for yours To flood the great Southeast; a war to co-write jingles With Carly “ what the fuck does this even mean?
The singing voice for Simba in the Lion King was the lead singer of Toto. Uhhh, did Jack Antonoff produce a Toto album? And why is Carly (Rae Jepsen, I presume) getting dragged into this?? Weird stuff. It’s like trying to solve a riddle that has no answer.
Max Bemis skyrocketing to the top of the list of biggest losers in the scene, on a very long list of losers in the scene.
Yeah, it’s a Steel Train reference and a shitty one at that. Didn’t think it could get worse..he must obviously be jealous of Jack’s success.
“I’ll take I, Vibrator 4x please.” Maybe singing those words together face to face for 4 people will finally make it get through to them how awkward it is.
I actually really like Psyche! as a song (outside of the awful outtro) and decided to listen to I, Vibrator and these are some of the most vile lyrics i've ever heard. Genuinely baffling shit coming from (presumably) a grown man.
