No new song today? I hope Max is okay. EDIT: Dammit, it just popped up after I posted this…here we go again…
I listened to the IARB 20 demos last night. That was fun. It was like watching Goonies and loving Corey Feldman.
listening to iarb demos because you like max bemis = broke listening to iarb demos because you like forrest kline = woke
One of my favorite aspects of his music that made them such a formative band for me was the instrumentation, guitar riffs, etc. there was such a likable, catchy, and quirky approach. It’s wild that I can’t really find any semblance of that these days. I haven’t been in any SA thread or keeping up with anyone’s mental state, I just miss the vibes offered from a time when this band motivated me to pay attention and spend Saturday nights updating the accuracy of all of the song pages on plyrics.com
Yeah all this bad Max content has just made me listen to s/t. Crush'd and Property my only skips on there. Love the rest
s/t > iarb any day of the week honestly. it's the only say anything album that kind of sounds like max is trying to grow up.
This is not saying much but tonight’s song is the most listenable out of the batch so far. Haven’t read the lyrics yet though so… that could change everything
I wish he had expanded upon the self titled sound and done that polished rock sound. Instead he just continued to regress more and more upon each release. So extremely disappointing.
Someone described IARB as a golden handcuffs album and that couldn’t be more accurate. Like, even Rivers Cuomo stopped giving a shit about people saying Pinkerton was Weezer’s last good album and just made whatever he wanted. Max seemingly could never shake people constantly comparing everything he did to IARB.
Every single bit of music he released after though he made comments like "This is the next IARB or spirit of IARB" the weird thing is all his music before IARB was really awesome and soulful with that sense of attitude that resonates, so it's not like it came from nowhere.
I rewatched this live set the other day and got depressed because 1. how the hell was this 16 years ago 2. his/Say Anything's career went in such wildly different directions than what I expected that it doesn't even feel like the same band anymore. S/T got me into Say Anything and was a formative album taste wise. I'll always mourn what could've been next had he decided to continue in that polished direction.
It was just trendy at the time to hate them because they were one of the biggest rock bands out there. The lyric makes no sense.
