I'm with Audrey - Self-Titled is fine/solid, but I don't understand the "masterpiece" comments and agree that it feels too polished/sanitized. The "Walmart" line is "Less Cute" has always stuck out like a sore thumb to me, too.
Self-Titled has good individual tracks but I never came around it it as an album. I might come off weird saying this, but I liked Anarchy and Hebrews more, even though Self-Titled is objectively better
The drums on s/t are so good. It had some of my favorite SA songs as well as just generally being their most focused record.
two things really shock me about this band 1) he gets a band to play these songs live with him. including good musicians like fred mascherino 2) people continue to pay to see them
I rarely, if ever, comment directly on this band (at least online) anymore because I have a very complicated relationship with both Max's music and the snark sub doxxing me. I find it best to lurk these days and keep an eye on...everything. Lmao.
Those snark subs are a cancer what the fuck. lol I could not imagine waking up like "That Aaron Mook guy said stuff I don't like about my favorite musician I gotta doxx him"
Those musicians really have to be in massive amounts of debt or something to justify playing in this band continuously despite everything Max has said and done, right? I personally can't imagine standing on a stage with this guy saying what he does and feeling good about myself at the end of the day, and I realize that maybe touring musician gigs aren't easy to come by, but I figure that some of these guys are far too talented to not have other opportunities to get out there. Like, wasn't Fred out with TBS this summer and then back with Say Anything at Furnace Fest? I'm sure there are contractual obligations to tour, but it's not like this is new or surprising behavior for Max. That they're still touring with him for this many years makes me think a little less of these guys.
I feel like any day now TBS will announce Fred is back as a permanent member and he'll put Say Anything in the rearview.
Isn't that what the big youtube announcement video was when he came back to TBS? I admit, I didn't sit through the entire thing lol.
The video was a very long-winded way of saying "John is sitting the summer out, but we've got Fred filling in for him." The future was left pretty ambiguous about what might happen, and since John's been healthy enough to play, they've done a couple of sets with both John and Fred. All press stuff around that has referred to TBS as a three piece (Adam, John, and Shaun), but Slam Dunk has a photo with all of them (including their touring guitarist, Nathan, and drummer, Mitch) to promote their Louder Now play through at the fest. If anything has been decided at this point, they're likely keeping it vague while things with their former drummer (he's suing them for defamation) are unsettled.
i think they likely have to wait for the legal situation with Mark leaving to play out before they can announce anything. once john was back they were doing all their interviews adam, john, shaun again.
buddy, it's say anything. name one good-taste choice max bemis has made since the self-titled record.
You know, the first time he went to rehab after IARB, his music progressively got worse. So maybe he's going back to rehab and it gets better? Full circle or something?
Truly one of the most despicable human beings in music, the 'mental health as spectacle' nonsense is repulsive.
I truly couldn't even get through the first page of this, not I think there's a new mixtape coming out, or something
