Someone else on Reddit heard "grandbabies" and not "black babies," so I'm trying to figure out what actually happened - would genuinely be shocked if he said the latter and no one from MCS or SA said/did anything about it. Legitimately thought the Reddit post was a shitpost at first. Keep looking for any other information or video from the show, but nothing so far.

As someone with Bipolar he needs treatment, but please don't throw around "committed" lightly, it's not a joke and shouldn't be treated as a spectacle. It's pretty triggering and offensive. Obviously he needs support, medication and maybe some intensive outpatient therapy though. I'm not making excuses, dude flat out should not be touring or a public persona at this point.

I mean he also said "Jews are the best people" or some crap like that. Healthiesh Max is not racist and he's not Jew-superior. He's using, going through a divorce, severe instability and probably leaking in and out of mania. There aren't that many people who know what that's specifically like, but I do. So trying to rationalize him, probably isn't productive.

Get the fuck off the road and get help. Beyond the obvious racism of this comment (not to mention his 'Jews are better than everyone else' bullshit), this is truly unhinged shit and it's so clear he shouldn't be touring right now.

 

Saw them in Jersey City last weekend. The band was tight but Max was really strange. He was giving off a very uncomfortable "I'm 41 but I'm acting like im still in college" vibe on stage, ripping his vape mid-verse, blowing smoke at the crowd, staggering around and struggling to keep up with some songs. I hope he gets it together

Yeah I am not caught up in this bands lore much at all and was seeing them with someone else (there is no world in which I would have purchased a ticket to a Say Anything show by myself) but somehow I was still put off by the way he was acting

oh boy time for my annual internal debate of "I can't afford a cover up, but maybe I should have my Say Anything tattoo covered up". The only reason I still have it is because the artist passed away and I don't wanna cover his work, but christ I cannot even fathom what it's like to be Max's backing band at this point. I couldn't imagine hopping back onto a bus with him after that lyric change.

 

I assume they have two buses. One for his traveling circus (though maybe not after Sherri hopefully has their kids) and one for everyone else.

 

He needs the money and has no other way to earn a living is my thought at this point. When that well dries up, I'm afraid for him.

 

I know I said in the Timberlake chat that we need to offer grace to performers who we have no idea what they’re going through, but I think Max is well past that point.

He clearly does not enjoy doing this and is out of options. Like, this is self destructive behavior every single night.

Kinda just skimmed this out of curiosity... don't recommend. Checked out bits of Belt and Alive and they were rough, but whatever (at least the minute I made it through of each). But then I made the mistake of checking out Admit It and just holy shit. It is so fucking bad. Thankfully this isn't the racist version of the song, he just rants about being sick at a hotel for that verse. But this doesn't even sound like Max half-assing it, he sounds like he's genuinely trying to sound as bad as possible for at least half the song. Listened to that whole thing like watching a car wreck you can't look away from. Cannot believe the band and/or label signed off on this being made public.

 

They will no doubt press this on vinyl so Max can get more of those nostalgia bucks.
