The penultimate “WOMAN SONG” might be the most important song that Bemis has ever written. It was penned a few days after child services came to his home. Alright, well see ya everyone.
Yikes, I got caught up in the hype and pre-ordered from Rough Trade...hovering over the cancel order button - is there somewhere to hear this new song before I do? edit: found it, canceled the order.
I couldn’t get through that press release. After the first paragraph and seeing Trump and Weinstein’s names in bold - absolutely no thank you and fuck off. I’ll give them the thinnest sliver of credit that three of those new songs sounded good (minus the lyrics), like the Say Anything we wanted for years. But the grifting, him saying Darren King is gonna shoot himself, the terrible song titles, that latest song - an absolute shame of a band.
I’ve checked out all the new songs out of morbid curiosity, and was surprised how much I liked them musically… but yeah with their lyrics and certain behavior over the past few years it just feels kinda gross to listen to them
Dine alone variant limited to 150, rough trade limited to 300, neither have sold out yet. TSSF sold out of the /500 variant within 30 minutes this morning..
I know the long-time guys from Say Anything maybe understand him and have been here before - but don’t Fred Mascherino, Brian Warren and Kenny Shields have better offers/better things to do than involve themselves with what this band now is?
Using satire as a “no this isn’t a nostalgia cash grab it’s a PLAY ON a nostalgia cash grab” is pathetic haha
Truthfully? Probably not. Between festival gigs and a headlining tour with Say Anything what else could they been doing to earn money? Moneen/Weatherbox/The Color Fred tours aren't going to sell places out. That would be one hell of a tour though. Can they just start a band minus Max. Hell of a line up lol.
I’m sure they are going to make a decent amount just from the IARB tour that seems to be selling pretty well. If they were smart they’d be looking for something to do after that tour because it’s beyond obvious that Max is living off of Nostalgia for any kind of relevancy these days.
Literally this. I’ve seen Say Anything 4-5 times (all pre-Oliver), including the IARB 10 Year Tour. And even before Max gained his current reputation, the difference in crowd between the IARB tour and the others was fairly noticeable. Maybe the band members get a good paycheck for this IARB tour, but I’d be shocked if a tour for this album goes anywhere near as well.
There is a very real possibility that vibrator is the single worst song I’ve heard from an established band in 10-15 years
The last time I heard a song that bad from a band I respect or respected was that “Crusin California” by The Offspring where they keep on referring to butts as cabooses.
