I watched a blackout drunk Chris stumble through their set in Dallas back in 2019, forgetting all the words, asking the crowd to sing everything, etc. - easily the worst show I've been to in 20+ years. I caught them in Austin last week and was really impressed by how good they sounded. Chris physically looked much, much better, not going to speculate on his mental health.
I simply feel like maybe misuse of a platform like this should result in a loss of that platform. I'm not interested in new music from Saves the Day. I'm interested in Chris getting help and finding another way to make a living as a (hopefully) better person.
This exactly. And it sucks because his music was so influential to my life, but I just can't pick and choose on my morals and standards.
Yeah, I'm not saying people shouldn't listen to this band because we live in a dystopia and I don't think it hurts anyone to take comfort in records that shaped your life. I actually listened to a Sun Kil Moon album for comfort yesterday when I was having extreme anxiety. But I don't go around promoting his music or think Mark Kozelek should be out performing, and I certainly would never see him live or support him financially in any way. That's just how I feel about stuff like this.
Caught the tour the other night. Chris sounded good. Has Buddy sounded like this for awhile or is this a recent change in his vocals? I’m not technical as a singer, so I don’t know the proper terms, but all the singing sounded strained or maybe nasally? Didn’t ruin the performance overall, especially since I had watched the Veeps stream and heard it there first, but it was odd. Due to that, and the fact Saves played 20 songs, Saves easily stole the show. Half the balcony left before Senses Fail.
I went to Cleveland on Saturday and also left before Senses Fail. Seen them live so many times, not the biggest fan, and was really hungry.
Yeah it's not just you, he sounds so derpy live now, he doesn't enunciate his words, he just slurs them all together. it was weird and jarring when they went into tie her down, rest of the set followed suit. Chris sounded fuckin perfect, he hits all the notes still and sounded fantastic, they redeemed themselves for me a couple years ago when i saw the SWYA annv set. i took a decade off from seeing saves live because their TBC set in 2014 was atrociously awful. with that said, buddy needs a rest i think, they just tour so much. when i saw them a year ago on the life is not a waiting room tour i didn't notice him singing like the way he did the other night. so, it's definitely recent. oh he also sounded awful on that saves the day cover, but that saves the day cover of senses fail was also unlistenable. at the end though, i had a blast, and narrow head blew me away, i checked out their top songs on spotify prior to the show and i found it boring but live, wow, they have a great groove, reminds me of 90s alt/grunge style. three guitars just totally in tune with each other, i found their set was songs that weren't on their top songs, from their most recent album. very cool band!
Hasn't Buddy always been a poor live singer though? I was the most into Senses Fail from 2010 - 2015 and I'd be taken aback by live videos of that time (thinking of the Audiotree session) because it seemed like every chorus was sung by the entire band, like intentionally to help him out. He already sounded nasally and often off key back then. It's something that I haven't noticed in any other band in the scene, except the biggest ones that can afford touring backup vocalists but that's a different case I guess.
he sounded great on the halloween show dvd that came with the fire, he actually sings the words more clearly
Some copies came with a live DVD, which was filmed at a hometown Halloween show at Starland Ballroom in New Jersey in October 2009. It contains live footage and interviews with the band, and was directed by Adam Rothlein.
I mean sure, but it was 11 years ago. From the stuff I've seen live of him recently he sounds like a mix between SWYA and Self titled for his vocals which is pretty cool, much less nasally and it sounds good. I would truly love to hear this as a story where an artist actually gets their shit together, atones for what they did and uses their platform for good, but we'll see. I don't really have much faith in that these days.
I found myself on the Instagram page that details Chris's relationship with the fan a few nights ago, and honestly it was really hard to read through it all again and remember what went down I'm not going to fault anyone for what they choose to listen to or ignore, but I do want to at least encourage everyone to take some time and actually go through everything and take it in. The victim deserves it and if they were a loved one of yours you would agree they deserve to be heard too, just take some time to read it It's all in the Highlight: https://www.instagram.com/your.bandsucks?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
Yea. It’s why I don’t ever see myself coming back to support them. Permanent damage there. If Chris is working on himself that’s great but I can’t forgive that.
I don't think he's ever talked about his sexuality, and frankly it's no one's business, but he did post this
i'm just surprised no one mentioned the person he groomed being a boy as if no one else was surprised either. maybe i just missed it in the forum though and haven't listened to all of the STD records growing up so maybe there were hints.
