Important to note that Emery regrets doing that now and doesn't anymore. I think they felt a sort of sense of responsibility to do that because of pressure from their very Christian fan base. They've talked about it a few times on the BC podcast.
I remember seeing Underoath shortly after the 2004 election and Spencer saying something along the lines of "We just elected a great man as president, praise god." Super weird, very cringy.
LOL reminds me of the same election where we had youth group on Monday and our church was a voting place. So all the sides were curtained off with equipment so it could be set up the next morning. I was just 18 and my friends who could also vote were gonna vote for Bush. At one point the election was brought up and a guy who played guitar for it asked us if we were voting for the right person and we were all very cool and said of course we were voting for Bush. He didn’t respond haha I got to know him as time went by and yea, he did not vote for Bush that year haha but our youth group clearly leaned that way. What a wild time. now I’d never be caught dead voting Republican.
I think Arun does fairly well for himself with some producing, commercial stuff and other work, but I don't know about the others. I definitely see what you're saying though. That's why it's always a strange thing to see something like this because it affects a lot of peoples' lives.
I mean, I'm sorry if you don't get to do what you love for a living but many of us don't. I'm not pretending to know anything more about the situation than anyone else, but in the situation you're describing, it's about looking the other way in regards to ethics and personal responsibility.
Most creatives don't get to do what they love for a living. Many of us have to work retail or day-jobs that allow us to write music or screenplays or whatever you enjoy doing on the side. If you're one of the lucky ones, you might be able to earn a platform and make a living off of it someday, but that's a privilege not afforded to everyone.
I mean, I wasn't talking about everyone, I know that much. I'm not ignorant, I'm in the creative field as well. I was specifically asking about you.
I don't think you're ignorant, my reasoning is the same as most creative people. Maybe if I'm lucky enough one day, that will change.
I bailed on going to LA because the idea of being in Hollywood with such uncertainty/no job security scares the shit out of me.
I assumed the other members would drop off based on the political and social views expressed on their social media profiles.
