i remember at the time Under The Boards came out every reviewer was just like "wow this is such a dark turn for them" and I was just like "uh did you actually listen to Sound The Alarm or...?" lol
In which album cycle did Chris have pink hair? I think that was the first time I saw them, at Warped Tour.
Nah UtB is the best of the trilogy. Daybreak and StA are a close second. But all three are still S tier.
Imo daybreak has some very high highs (daybreak, 1984, deranged, O, undress me) but some very low lows (E, U, everything except the ending build up in Z)
trilogy rules. UTB is the one I listen to the least but it has Can't Stay The Same which is maybe the best saves song so
I think Sound The Alarm is their most underrated album. Reallllll dark, but that’s where Chris shines. Stuff like Don’t Know Why, and Dying Day are killin The relationship songs tho...oof Under The Boards is great too, especially the first 4 songs Daybreak has some kinda cool songs but the recording is so lifeless. That album is a chore to get through for me Listening to the trilogy and In Reverie recently, I found myself liking Sound The Alarm more than I used to and In Reverie a little bit less. Go figure
The trilogy is great. under the boards may be an acquired taste, but if you think about it a lot of the songs on the album can be singles. radio, can’t stay the same, get fucked up, bye bye baby , and kaleidoscope are all catchy. I remember hearing get fucked up live before the album came out and just marked out cuz its freakinn cool, melody of the chorus n all.
Honestly, STA has become my favorite record of theirs. In the last 5-6 or so years, i've gone back to that one the most easily. listened to UTB today for the first time in years and that is just as good as I remember. I loved Daybreak when it came out, haven't listened to it since so going back to that one this afternoon.
Aside from In Reverie - the trilogy is my favorite material from Chris. I would also rank it in the same order it was released though lol STA > UTB > DB
So glad to see Sound The Alarm praise so much haha, it's one of my favorite underrated albums, the bass grooves, the lyrics are absolutely dark but earned. Love it! Also, I forgot about Chris's pink hair during that era ;d
Having Manny and Durijah in the rhythm section also really benefits STA and UTB, the trilogy is great and those two are the best of the 3 and I love Daybreak.
Yeah, I really wish Manny and Durijah stuck around to record and tour for Daybreak. Felt incomplete without them. Especially Manny.
