While I would have liked to get another record in the vein of In Reverie, I understand why we sadly didn’t, and I do love the trilogy records a lot. With that said; I haven’t enjoyed much from this band since 2011’s Daybreak.
And even though it is a pretty dark album, it still has two of their poppiest songs - Radio and Can’t Stay the Same. I love this album haha.
Me too, it's probably my favorite of the trilogy. I remember listening to it a ton when it came out and loving it, but it generally did not seem to be received very well and I was really confused.
the self-titled is the closest thing to an In Reverie follow-up we're ever likely to get, and I don't understand why more people don't realize that lol
I liked that post James. I agree with most of what you said, even though I'd go harsher on Daybreak then even you did. I do really like Undress Me though.
I actually agree with this but I just personally don’t think it’s that great of a record aside from a few tracks like Supernova and In The In Between.
I know this will probably shock no one but I think In Reverie just became my favorite STD record. I’ve been a fan for a long time now but after spinning it this morning - it felt like almost an epiphany. So good. Also the production is still incredible 18 years later.
that’s awesome, good for you. I’m sure a lot of us just have that sparkle in our hearts when someone finds the appreciation for in reverie :). there’s this dude on YouTube that does acoustic covers of Saves the day. If you watch the covers he does of in reverie tracks they’re just sounds full of beauty and makes you appreciate the album more. Not to mention Chris Conley’s friggin lyrics on it.
Nice! I’ll have to look that up later. I remember walking to the mall down the street from my High School the day In Reverie was out to listen to it at the Hot Topic. I didn’t appreciate it then and remember hating it until yearsssss later when the trilogy records were already out. In the last few years I’ve come to appreciate it and this morning, while listening to Monkey, it just all came together. It’s a bummer that it flopped so hard but it was a pretty decent pivot from SWYA and the audience was just not ready. Also Dreamworks could have done a much better job with marketing it.
This isn’t my favorite Saves record, so I’d like you to have my pre-order. PM me and let’s talk. You’d appreciate it more than me.
Oh wow! Thanks! I'm not able to PM you though. I get an error saying you limit who can view your profile lol.
Writing about the 10-year anniversary of Suburbia (feeling very old). I know the final line on the album ("I'm putting my shoulder to the wheel") is a reference to America by Allen Ginsberg, just like much of the rest of the album. But I've always considered it a double-reference, a little nod to Saves the Day as well. Early TWY sounds quite a bit like early STD and I know they have a fondness for that era of pop-punk. Anyone agree or am I just plain wrong and should not mention that theory in my piece?
