For me I wouldn't be mad if I watched this live, I'd be concerned the same way I am now. Very concerned for his mental health. I hope he gets the help he needs
That video left a bad taste in my mouth so I'm spinning some Saves The Day at work...I still contend that "1984" is a top 3 track in this band's catalog.
Sorry I didn't mean it to come off that way. Totally agreed, 100% concerned. But his band members don't seem to be? It's such an odd thing.
Oh no, no need to apologize. I wasn't trying to say you said anything wrong. Just saying my personal take on it. I was uncomfortable watching it.
What this video doesn't show is Chris falling on the ground, knocking over his microphone and writhing around for a while which happened right before this video started and then another 5 or so minutes of "jamming" (if you can call it that) after it ended. All very weird.
Yea that video really encapsulates the night, minus the writhing around on stage as @CuttingMyFingersOff put it. It definitely seems like drug use to me, which is the only thing that explains why the others in the band weren't concerned.
honestly this whole thing is hilarious, can't stop laughing at that thread but tbh i don't think there's reason to assume that he needs help. he most likely was just tripping on acid or shrooms and saying the things that are usually said when tripping on acid or shrooms.
Are you all serious?? That video is far from worrysome, have you never been to concerts before? Maybe I've just been to too many concerts, but I have seen way more bands do way weirder things and "jam" way worse and for way longer...
Have you seen the whole set, or just random samples? It was very concerning. Also, it's especially concerning based on incidents he's had within the past year as well, having legit breakdowns at shows.
I really, truly have. A TON of shitty shows. I watched the clip above, plus knowing that Chris has been fucking weird for a while now. I just personally don't find that video to be beyond anything
Yea I thought the video was just kinda funny, I’m not too concerned. If you listen to the matt Pryor podcast with him, it’s not too surprising given his personality. When I met him at a show a few years ago he was super, super nice and normal and didn’t yell at me about time loops or anything.
Maybe he's just letting his freak flag fly? Like, I hate to see anybody going through some kind of substance problem/mental breakdown, but maybe he was just having fun. It might be hard playing Shoulder To The Wheel for 18 years straight.
Don't get me wrong, I hope I am just being dramatic about it. But given his online presence, incidents at other shows, and now this, it's starting to add up to something more going on than just the dude being weird or taking some drugs once in a while. But who knows, I don't know him personally, so maybe I am way off.
This is so strange, considering how tight the band was at the TBC show I saw a few years back. Always loved Chris as a person so it's scary to hear these things about him. Wishing him the best and hope that all is well with him and the band.
You might be right and everything is OK. Like I said originally, maybe he just decided he was playing to a bunch of drunk NFL fans and was like "IDGAF. I'm getting fucked up." Or maybe he does this all the time and this is completely normal for him. Or it was just something that happened and I'm overreacting. I'm just telling you what I saw when I was there.
My feelings exactly, and my concern is that if he does it all the time and it's normal for him, that's not actually normal and is still very concerning.
Yeah that definitely could have been the case. Either way though, it's shitty. If he's got a drug problem and everyone is looking the other way, that's awful for obvious reasons. But if he's the kind of guy that will totally torpedo a rock show because the crowd isn't 100% aging hardcore and pop punk dorks like he's used to... then he can go fuck himself.
Not sure I would draw that hard of a line, but I definitely walked away feeling frustrated. They could have played literally anything from the STD catalog (I wasn't just there for the hits!) and I would have been thrilled. But, what's done is done.
