Finally got a chance to sit down and listen last night. I'm not sure how I feel about most of the record yet, but after just two listens I can already say I adore "29" and love "Rendezvous" even more in the context of the album.
*Is good But to help with your listening experience, the context is that tracks 1-8 are a history of the band and then 9 is Chris' autobiography .
Man I really can't deal with the lyrics on this thing. I don't like any song up to 1997, that one is okay.
Yeah idk if I'm gonna return to any of this. 29 is certainly ambitious and better than the rest of the album. Not into it EDIT: The We Belong Together/We Belong section of the song is really great, though.
Just listened to the record from start to finish, hoping for it to click with me, but nope- I still think this is so underwhelming. 29 is fantastic since it sounds like Saves The Day via Daybreak-era and Suzuki is catchy but way too brief. The rest does nothing for me. Pretty bummed between this and their self-titled (aside from Supernova) since I love this band so much.
I absolutely love the guitar tones on this one. Also it's actually a pretty technical record for them. A lot of cool chord changes and song structures stuff that we haven't really seen previously, I feel. Arun and Rodrigo really have some killer parts on 9. I'm excited to see them play some of these songs live! I'm a little biased with STD only cause I love the new line up. Arun is one of the best guitar players Saves has ever had. It also looks like they hired a new guitar player for this tour so Chris will be doing Vocals only, which should be super cool! Kind of like the old days.
I kind of look at this album as two parts; really tracks 1-8 are a cohesive album and track 9 (29) is a separate EP.
You guys are telling me v. Victorian & 21st from 29 – the best Saves the Day song – is a complete interpolation of that Mariah Carey song? Fine. Fine.
I really like Chris' lyrics from SWYA and IR the most. the finally in TINAE always gets me. Just sail, belly up to the clouds, the rocks scraping your back To breathe in the air will be the only thing that you have And your love will be warm nights with pockets of moonlight Spotlighting you as you drift, the actor in this play And you walk across the stage, take a bow, hear the applause And as the curtain falls, just know you did it all The best that you knew how and you can hear them cheering now So let a smile out and show your teeth cause you know you lived it well
you're the light in a heartbroken world, and i was a lost cause before you i almost forgot what the point was in the end if it's all just a dream, at least we're together if i'm with you i could stay lost forever ❤❤
It's sad that the STD subreddit has been dead for ages. Not even a post when the singles were released.
Does anyone what the number 29 means? I can't figure out why it's called that. But I also have clue about the E, Z, O titles from Daybreak.
After some googling of numeric and letter symbols... "Letter ‘O’, when appearing in your waking life, dreams, visions, synchronicities or otherwise is symbolism of something new, continuous and stable. The letter O represents, Omnipotence, Opportunity, Optimistic, Ocular, Obliterate, Overcast, Opinionated, Official, Over-the-top, over. It is also a symbol of eternal/the infinite power." "The letter E is symbolic of The weight of the world + being on top of the world. It is up to you to decide how you will experience this journey when the letter E appears to you. The Letter E can be of great significance to EGO, Earth, Eco-system, everlasting, evolution, Emergence, elimination, empowerment, epiphany." "The number 29 is highly relationships oriented. Its very existence is intertwined with the dynamics of relationships. A person with the number 29 in a major position of their numerology chart tends to be diplomatic, a teamworker, and enjoy trusted companionship." I couldn't find much on the letter Z. I have no idea though if these are the same meanings that Chris was going for.
With my immense devotion to Phish, it’s been a cool month for me with Phish fall tour and STD and Young Jesus both dropping 20+ minute closing tracks.
