none of the violence on that record sits well with me, and honestly it wasn’t until a couple years ago that i listened to that record and really critically looked at a lot of the lyrics. it’s still nostalgic for me, but it’s a lot like take this to your grave or things like that where the nostalgia comes with a caveat that should be considered. i think it’s important that we re evaluate these classic staple records
and like, by “considered” and “re evaluated,” i mean, we need to talk about it and make these issues with these misogynistic lyrics known
The Local Wave: Conversations with the Nashville Underground by The Local Wave on Apple Podcasts New interview with Arun. Good listen, lots of stories and a dive into recording daybreak and s/t
FYI, the movements for "29" are as follows i. Heartbeat ii. So In Love iii. 432 iv. Tangerine v. Victorian & 21st vi. Angel vii. New Jersey
It's funny you say that because as much as I dislike the lyrics and vocals that's definitely not the impression I get from this album. It's just not what I wanted and that's okay.
The vocals honestly don't bother me, Saves The Day is a cool song though. Maybe the effort seems lazy to me ? I'm not sure, I definitely need to spend more time with it. But this band has always been hit or miss with me.
Scene: Chris Conley is fast asleep Zzzzzz Zzzzz (a loud noise awakes him) Chris: AHHH what was that?!! (silence) Chris: Oh well, I guess now that I'm up I might as well write a 7-part 21-minute song (5 minutes later) Chris: All done, back to bed!
Either way I'm going to spend time with it and hopefully it grows on me by the show rolls around. I wouldn't say it's a terrible album either.
Really enjoying this. “29” is absolutely amazing. But I cant help but feel like I wish it was broken down into separate tracks.
So is there truth to the whole Chris getting recently divorced thing? Someone on here heard it on a podcast? If true, that makes “29” so depressing. His love for her is so strong, and I imagine that’s gonna be tough to sing live. “Undress Me” too. I fucking love that song. (Anybody else think Saves have perfect album closers every time?)
Yeah, he talks about his split briefly in the Billboard interview someone linked a page or two back. Seriously, so much passion for her. Undress Me always gives me chills.
