To be fair, I hate that song so to imagine a STD version of it with Chris' singing just makes me really want to pass
While the lyrics might be slightly corny for "Saves The Day" how can you hear the lyrics "Let's sing along another 20 Years" and not smile? I was nervous this might be the bands last record pretty recently
damn I am jealous every one seems to like this. I wish I liked this but its just....bad to me beyond the closer.
The lyrics/vocals are pretty much the only thing killing me from really enjoying the album because the instrumentals are great.
I have only listened to the non-29 songs (haven't had a chance to dive in to 29 yet but i will tonight), and i think it's really enjoyable. Holy damn is Rose a jam, and Saves the Day is a lot of fun too. Those are my two favorites so far. Daybreak is an incredible song and you all seem to live 29, so I'm very very excited to hear it.
I guess I am in the minority here but this record does mostly nothing for me. Which is a mega bummer (and what I feared after hearing the singles) since I have loved this band since I first Through Being Cool back in 2000 but I actually prefer their S/T album over this and I am not even a fan of that record aside from "Remember" and "Supernova". With all of that said- I do like Suzuki but wish it was longer and 29 has some really cool parts to it but that is pretty much it. I wish I could hear an album in the vein of the stuff I saw Arun demoing a few years back. That sounded interesting and a progressive sound for the band.
I will say that just based on the first 8 songs, I see myself going back to this way more than the S/T.
I actually completely agree with this. I wish the whole album was like this style and that little section before it.
Depends what you want from lyrics. They’re well written for what they are, they just are a different vibe (for the most part) than what some people want.
Also, I just really want to point out that I while I understand people grow and change over time and he views things in a different mindset now, but his lyrics on this album are by far the worst he's ever written for the most part. There are good parts, but I get bummed out when I think about how good of a writer he used to be with previous lines from his old work like this bit from Firefly: "To me you are the light from a light bulb that breaks sometimes And the tender warmth inside is released into my life And it smothers me in flames that lick and scorch my face. As the smoke reaches the sky know I'm burning tonight." And I get it, that was like 17 years ago or something. Totally understandable things have changed. It just makes me sad.
