I would rather hear the one guy sing "I've got maggots in my scrotum" for 90 minutes than watch this again.
I enjoyed this movie and I enjoy Seth and Evan, but Trey and Matt have been so much more consistent for so much longer that they easily take the cake.
South Park is stale and even as a stoner comedy, I'd argue Pineapple Express (along with Superbad and This is The End) is better than almost anything Trey and Matt have done, excluding Team America.
I'm also not trying to undermine the influence Trey and Matt have had at all, I just think their work hasn't held up entirely well. Who knows if Seth and Evan's will do the same. I just think they're stronger at this point
South Park season 1 through like 7 hold up very well imo. It was alright for a few seasons after that but has been generally terrible for the last 6 years or so. My favorite parts of this movie were the parts when anyone actually working at Shopwell had a bit of dialogue. Their lines were all hysterically delivered, as few as there were of them
Superbad is much better than Pineapple Express and the first 7-8 seasons of South Park (prior to it becoming a current events show) are hallmarks in modern American comedy. Still hold up, highly influential etc. The force that was South Park circa 97-99 is unmatched by most modern pop culture movements
I was never a fan of South Park and Team America is the only movie I've ever walked out on. I'm just not into their humor.
Idk I enjoyed this movie a lot. Also was blazed. Even better when I see people getting offended and walking out. Also it's so idiotic to see parents bring their kids to movies like this. Smh. Also, I'm a Trey/Matt fan for life. What I grew up on (I watched their shit way too young, won't lie) and BASEketball is and will be one of my favorite comedies ever. South Park is hit or miss these days but still prefer it over any cartoon comedy on TV (except Rick and Morty).
there was some stuff I liked about this, Kristen Wiig and Michael Cera do great voice work no duh, and there was something interesting about Norton's Woody Allen impression I also admired that this was unpredictable and had moments of insanity I also think it wanted to have its cake and eat it to by being all look at how woke we are slut shaming and homophobia based on religion are bad, we'll also have every racial stereotype/Muslim stereotype/gay stereotype too though, how do you make a 72 virgins joke and have a Native American spirit guide in 2016, it's not only racist it's lazy
I'm more annoyed by "South Park"'s more vocal fans than the show. The show can easily be ignored, but the "Douche Vs. Turd Sandwich" memes when the election comes up or the "Kanye is a gay fish" memes seemingly never end.
I still love South Park but as a massive Kanye fan it annoys the shit out of me when people still use the fishsticks joke on him and think they're being clever or original The episode aired nearly ten years ago, not to mention the homophobic nature of the actual joke
I mean, no. I think the public's view of the show is 'this is a legacy that isn't what it used to be,' which, on the whole, is accurate. I mean, you wouldn't call Matt Groening overrated, would you? Wouldn't you just call the new seasons of the Simpsons bad? And also, they wrote the fucking Book of Mormon. Sorry, I hate to like aggressively jump to the defense of these guys, but I think the amazing things they've done in their career overshadowsthe fact that they're a couple of mid-40s libertarian white dudes now who still have bright creative moments but not the long-lasting magic they once did.
I definitely don't agree that Matt and Trey are overrated, I fucking love South Park still like I said. I just had that one complaint and that's more about the fans than the show. I guess homophobic might be the wrong word for the joke but isn't it basically just calling him gay?
The point of the joke isn't to call anyone gay though, the point is that it's really dumb word play. It's like the world's dumbest dad joke, except dad jokes are usually at least ironically funny
Yeah, I always thought Kanye was the one making it into a 'gay' thing, up to that point it was literally just a play on words.
