This will no doubt be one of the best albums of the year. 5 & 7 were both incredible last year and so far everything I’m reading says this is even better. Their music is kind of hard to describe so I stole the description below. “walking an idiosyncratic path that zig-zags between ESG-esque post-punk funk, early 80s boogie and something approaching neo-soul, without ever really fitting into any of those categories or sounding like straightforward homage.“
Was intrigued after you mentioned them in the albums thread and was even more intrigued when Guardian said this about their last one... “Sault make hooky, dubby, funky music with echoes of ESG and Can“ So I’ll definitely be giving this a listen
Guess they decided this was a good time to review this now that it’s ended up on every publications end of year list. SAULT: Untitled (Black Is) / Untitled (Rise)
Every outlet under the sun has seemingly included them in their lists, how did p4k manage to completely miss them?
Listened to Black Is for the first time this year and FUCK I forgot how good it is. Also, it’s been 9 months since a new release? What’s up with that??? I kid, 4 releases in under 2 years is more than enough to keep anyone going.
It’s really good, but not quite on the same level as Black Is or Rise. It’s more on par with 5 and 7.
