He was funny in some of the pre-taped bits I think the key for him is just doing a Tracy Morgan thing of just playing similar exaggerated versions of himself every single sketch.

I know it's mostly just him relaying a story but I genuinely think Mulaney is one of the funniest people alive
I love Bowen but him saying he never felt "central to the show" is a perfect example of how much of a vacuum it must feel like to be on SNL, it felt like he was in every single sketch at one point
I got fooled too but read the full quote. He was saying how happy he was to have such a big role on the show while being his weird self and not having to play those vanilla roles or be the main guy. It was twisted in the headlines.
