I actually have kind of felt like almost every sketch tonight has gone on longer than it needed to, including WU
Dancing Teacher sketch was good, Damon sold the hell out of it despite Chloe doing her best to sink it by breaking yet again
I generally like Matt Damon a lot and think he's good at comedy when given good material but this was a weak episode
Caught up on the Olivia episode. Mostly pretty bad, except the jealous ex one which was great. The Dismukes Rasta MC one could have been great, but it felt like they didn’t really know what to do with it in the 2nd half. The minute or two when he busted that out though was gold.
Yeah, it seemed like it would be a sketch about a guy who discovers these inexplicable dormant or hidden ‘talents’, whether it was all Rasta voice or it would’ve been similar other talents, but it became a sketch about a guy who was both embarrassed and proud of an inexplicable outburst he had. They did the funny thing once and then the rest of the sketch was the characters talking about that funny thing in a kind of funny way, which is a weird structure for a sketch.
So what special skits, if any, come into play tonight? Cowbell? Chad Smith? Celebrity Jeopardy? Spartan Cheerleaders? Or none of the above, as all the people he did them with are no longer on the show anymore...
I could see them doing another Scared Straight with Kenan and Sudeikis and the return of Ferrel’s character from the anniversary show.
‘I Was Thrown Straight Into the Fire’: ‘SNL’ Freshmen on Crazy Auditions If any of the new cast members leave, who do you think isn’t staying? I can see Tommy Brennan and Kam Patterson not coming back. They just don’t have enough range for the show imo.
Jeremy and Veronika are there to stay for sure. Probably Ben too, though he is admittedly way less prominent as a performer than I anticipated, maybe even a little underwhelming I’ve liked Tommy during the few opportunities he’s had to stand out, but it’s not often, which is never a good sign. Kam adds nothing to literally any sketch he’s in
Tommy is like Longfellow where he's clearly a great standup and performer who just doesn't quite mesh with Lorne's style
Tommy is more sitcom handsome than Longfellow in a conventional/bland way that I think actually helps him. He could be a utility voice of reason for the show in a way that Longfellow was too sardonic and sarcastic to do. Kam should probably be let go but I can see them sitting on him for at least another year and hoping he explodes somehow. I like Jeremy the best but I can see the show being like “Eh he’ll land on his feet elsewhere, we can do without him” and he gets cut before anyone else.
