I had to start a bit late but took notes lol Fun cold open, I liked the different approach to the political opening for once I will never stop fucking loving Jack Black lol, great monologue. Nice to see Jonah Hill again even though he had kind of a weird energy Lunch sketch was maybe slightly long but I laughed a lot Words to Live By was clever but again maybe a little too long for a pretty one-note premise Self-Defense Class was a lot of fun, there's such a fun looseness to this episode so far Husbands sketch ruled lmao I'm caught up now
Random thought but I wonder if there are any other episodes where I've seen both the host and musical guest live before or if this is the first one (besides Donald Glover and Childish Gambino) EDIT: Two John Mulaney episodes lol, the one with Jack White again and the one with the Strokes
This whole episode felt very loose and fun, which I think Jack's last episode did too. The best hosts are always the ones that bring a different feel to the show just by being there That being said though there were some lulls for me so I wouldn't say it's one of the best of the season but I did have a lot of fun
I read there was a sketch cut from update re: a couple where the wife is always cold and the husband keeps giving her layers of his own. Then at the final clothing, his shirt, gets taken off to show a tattoo of sca-Jo, without Colin knowing that part.
I’m really loving UK’s version of Weekend Update. The most savage joke was “Happy Easter to Jesus, the only murdered Palestinian we’re allowed to talk about.” Brutal but so fucking funny.
saw someone tweet that ashley's presence on the show made it feel more like groundlings, is that accurate?
Yes. She was a Groundling and is very Groundlings. A lot of the humor there comes from character behavior and the performance, so that lines that aren’t technically jokes or don’t read funny on the page hit like joke lines. UCB is more of the writer side of things where the humor comes from the writer, through a funny premise and lines that are clear written jokes.
