Ashley’s acting is so great. Everything else was so wacky and bit/writer-y though which I think didn’t help the sketch. Would have been funny if Martin just owned having the statues and had a dumb but emotional justification for them that barely worked enough for Ashley to keep renewing her trust and go another step deeper into this weirdo’s tour. Maybe he wins her over in the end and she lets out her inner Looney Toons freak?
Interesting to learn "The Haircut" was Ashley's signature bit that she did for years in The Groundlings and in her SNL audition. They also tried it like 4 times as a WU desk bit but it kept getting cut.
it makes sense that her persona is just herself exaggerated like Sarah, of course she would get a buzz cut for fun
It really plays to the classic SNL vibe a lot of people get from her that she was responsible for that one. A person coping with a bad haircut is such a simple premise and 20-25 years ago “I like it” would’ve been ubiquitous
I have literally seen this guy in zero things (gonna watch Wake Up Dead Man soon) but he seems charming enough, maybe a little nervous
