Had to watch late Cold open was funny, I liked the fourth wall break bit. JAJ is in a tough position for me because his Trump is amazing and obviously he's going to need to be used a lot but I'm so sick of the real guy that it kinda blends into the bit for me Monologue was cute, I loved that they got the whole cast in there Channel 4 News had a funny premise that may have overstayed its welcome a bit but I enjoyed it a lot PDD video was a little all over the place but it was definitely funny and I appreciate that they branched out more this season Spanish sketch had a super funny premise and I genuinely enjoy Bad Bunny's acting performances on this show, him becoming a friend of the show has been unexpected but a pleasant surprise Bowen's Still Straight was basically the same joke as the first one again but I did like the turns it took Mike Myers/Kanye sketch definitely had some laughs and I love the writer that came up with the idea but it wasn't hilarious Bad Bunny performance was cool. Not exactly my type of music but he's a talented guy Super fun WU and one of the best joke swaps yet. I fully expected to go into this with Jost and Che confirming it's their last episode, which I guess it still could be, but nothing really indicated that Intimacy Coordinators sketch unfortunately didn't work for me at all TVTakes wasn't great either Victorian Ladies at Lunch was super chaotic which had me enjoying it a lot. I think Chloe was genuinely having a hard time with the "food" Scarlett is definitely in the pantheon of great SNL hosts but this episode kind of fell off after Update unfortunately. Still enjoyed it a ton and overall think this season was one of the better ones in recent memory
i saw a tiktok theorizing there'd be this mass exodus after this season and i don't get it. except maybe bowen after seeing those goodbyes.
Post-season 50 does feel like a good time for some change. I think they need to finally end Jost/Che Weekend Update and find new host/s.
Che and Jost should definitely go. I feel like it’s too early for Bowen, but also I think he’s been in the most movies/shows and has a successful podcast, so he doesn’t really need SNL any more. I imagine Devon Walker’s got to be gone, considering he was underused as both a featured player and cast member.
SNL has felt like Bowen's show since the big 2022 exodus where McKinnon and Davidson left. Sherman and Marcello I think are ready to step up and be the main faces of the show in his absence. I think this season they already kinda brokeout and have been. I like Mikey Day, but I think his clock is winding down. He's been there forever and he has a bunch of film projects he's writing in development (he's doing the live action Inspector Gadget remake and some other stuff for Disney)
I like those pivotal seasons in SNL history where a bunch of stuff changes. Like I was recently watching some Season 31, 2005-2006. SNL makes the switch to HD. Fey, Dratch, Parnell, and Sanz leave. Hader, Wiig, Samberg, and Sudeikis debut (probably the greatest debut SNL featured player lineup ever). The following season Meyers became WU co-host.
I think Longfellow would be decent in that role. Really he only stands out in WU bits. He has the kind of sardonic sarcastic personality that a lot of the most iconic Update hosts have had.
I hope Walker stays and actually gets a chance to shine because on podcasts outside of SNL that dude is legit hilarious.
Finally watched "Ladies and Gentlemen... 50 Years of SNL Music". Got chills multiple times (Billy Preston, Sinead, Rage, 9/11), angry (Kanye), laughed hysterically (TLI, Ashlee Simpson, Sandler). Questlove knocked it out of the park.
