Heidi’s been expressing sketch fatigue of late and has already had 3/2.5 seasons without Kate, Aidy, and Cecily to run the gauntlet as the go-to female performer during her 8 year run. I’m not sure how much more she can grow and/or mold the show with Jost/Che likely leaving since they are strictly Weekend Update and haven’t been head writers since season 47. But I’d be happy if she ends up sticking around. She’s my personal MVP.
Ego seems the most likely to return of the three cast members hitting 7/8 years. Ego does seem like she could still grow since she didn’t hit her stride as quickly as Heidi did, and she could lead the next generation alongside Kenan, Dismukes, Squirm, and JAJ, if the big four of the old guard (Kenan excluded) do leave. Between those five, Marcello, and Longfellow, that‘a a very solid base to build upon for a new era. Chloe’s screen time has been lacking and she seems primed to breakout elsewhere. Bowen has graduated to leading and supporting film roles. It’s a toss up on how much of a commitment he wants to make to SNL and his near guaranteed yearly Emmy nominations vs building his own career elsewhere. If he stays that’s an even easier transition for the show to make. Not sure if Devon Walker will make Lorne’s cut for 51. He didn’t seem to make the leap necessary once graduating to repertory.
My current prediction is Jost, Che, Mikey and Heidi leave with Bowen and Ego staying another season or so
Sarah Sherman seems like a good person who was pitched a shit role and maybe didn't have the foresight in the readthrough to realize how it was gonna come off. Somebody wrote that sketch and Lorne signed off on it. It seems unfair Sherman got all the heat for it.
