Im glad they showed that. I've been doing a lot of deep dives of the early years and it's such a haunting short ya know. They did a lot of artsy stuff like that in the beginning.
He’s had a long run of great, great features and songs in the last few years. Just hasn’t had a ton of commercial success or put out a well/received full length in a while.
The Armisen Q&A bit, the Mulaney NYC musical, and the Sandler song were my favorite parts of the night.
Man, I definitely think I enjoyed the 40th more (would have to rewatch though) but this was still amazing, I definitely agree that the biggest thing to come from this might be how funny Eddy Murphy still is I almost feel like this felt a little melancholic at times, like it was a series finale or something. Definitely not as overtly celebratory as the 40th, but the older the show gets and the more people we lose that's going to naturally happen I guess. There were definitely some people that are still with us who had me really feeling their absence too In terms of laughs, I definitely think the Scared Straight sketch was my favorite, and of course the Lonely Island appearance too. I also love how famous and clearly loved by the industry John Mulaney has gotten, the fact that they did one of his musical sketches and it was one of the best ones was amazing. I had a ton of fun watching this and there will never be another show like SNL
Can't wait to hear Fallon and Meyers tell after party stories on their shows tomorrow night. The ones they told after the 40th were wild.
It helped that Eddie was a participant in this instead of them teeing up his big return and it was just him teeing up a montage.
Bummed I couldn’t watch live with my usual Saturday night freaks in here. Looking forward to watching tomorrow
I think the number of people upset Stefon wasn't there explains why they focus on a lot of more recent sketches. Lonely Island, Mulaney Musical Number, Black Jeopardy all fit that same bill where people would've complained if they hadn't been on it. Not sure if we needed Chad *and* Close Encounters but I get why they included them. Kate and Pete are two of the most popular recently departed cast members. Domingo and Dooneese both are popular on tiktok so also totally get why they included those. Debbie Downer is an incredible iconic character so definitely understand why they included her. Which I think leaves the Scared Straight and Bronx Beat sketches. Which, given Scared Straight was probably the best sketch of the night (and honestly was one of the few sketches you could totally appreciate on its own and not have to realize they were doing a callback to a past sketch) like sure maybe it would've been better if they replaced Bronx Beat with something from earlier but it was nice to give Maya something, and also I'm not honestly sure what recurring sketches are out there that are popular enough that enough people would know what they are these days.
