Sure, Maya, I get that.... But it would have made sense for someone who was on the show now, to get a chance to do it. Though Maya did a nice job.
But SNL wants recognizable stars to play real life politicians. I still think having Alec Baldwin come in just to play Trump was a stupid idea.
But they never used to do it and when given the chance, cast members like Dana Carvey and Will Ferrell turned politicians into extremely popular characters.
It's more of a recent phenomena, since (in my opinion) the show got a big boost once sketches popped up on YouTube and Lonely Island videos went viral. They want big names so that you would hear about it the next day and seek out the videos.
Molly had a lot of potential, but unfortunately, SNL put them in background roles most of the time, so there wasn't really an opportunity for Molly to grow. Kinda the same story with Punkie.
I thought Punkie started really hitting her stride in the last season or two but Molly never really clicked I think. I get the impression that Punkie left voluntarily but Molly's contract didn't get renewed
Yeah, I think Punkie left because it was clear it was messing with her identity. Feel bad for Molly, but hope they have a career in Broadway or something because they clearly have a great voice.
Whooops! Well maybe that says a lot. But to be fair, I also can’t say anything distinguishing about Devon Walker either. They really did a bad job with their featured players.
