Well it started pretty strong but fell off a cliff very quickly. Maybe I’ll go back at some point but after 45 min I kinda couldn’t do it anymore
I enjoyed the episode for the most part but their sketch placement has been so whack the last year or so. Why wouldn’t you put the sketch with Dismukes where Momoa takes his shirt off waaaay earlier in the episode??
Honestly thought it was one of the worst episodes in years - and that’s saying a lot. Even the PDD sketch, which typically saves every episode was pretty bad. only sketch I laughed at was the tennis one and that idea has been done many times in the past.
It seems a lot of ideas are being repeated in a different way - the airport parade bringing out people, as example. I didnt enjoy the episode as much as I wanted to - the tennis one made it for me. The Roman Empire one was good too, with all the news previously about guys talking about the roman empire... The impersonation sketch (was that the previous week?) with Mulaney/Hader has also BTDT. Not sure what Im hoping for in the future, but the cast is good... Mikeys Biden WAS better this week.
It seems like it. Who would we like to see though? Would they have to be relevant (so, no Seinfeld folks/Friends folks). Would they have to be for the younger crown (Hence younger guests/musicians) (No Stones, no Bruce...) Do they have to be 'safe'? (No Kanye, etc...)
I wonder how much of that is a reflection of US culture. Like I remember reading an article about how the US really isn't making new pop stars anymore. Maybe that's antidotal, but it does seem to have an air of truth about them. There just doesn't seem to be as many hot new stars out there as there has in the past. Not to mention, the strikes are still going to have a bit of a delayed effect on something like SNL, because fewer movies and tv shows coming out (as releases got pushed back to accommodate the strike) means fewer people even having the chance to get that breakout role that SNL then wants to capitalize off of.
I feel like Turnstile is one more incredible album cycle away from it tbh. From opening for Blink to being nominated for Grammys it doesn’t feel out of reach if they can maintain the hype
