Had to start late again Classic overly long, hit or miss SNL political cold open Megan has always seemed cool, excited to see if she can impress Hot Girl Hospital was... not great We Got Brought won me over by the end, Bowen was the MVP Deer was really funny actually Jack Harlow will probably do a good job hosting but very weird that they're having two rappers be host/MG in a row Girl Talk was funny, that subtitle gag was inspired PDD wasn't like their best work but still a couple good laughs like always I've always thought Megan was a great rapper who didn't make great music but that was a really good song Pretty good Update. The Heidi/Chloe bit was great but Devon seemed really nervous, though I did enjoy his bit Workout sketch had maybe the worst directing I've ever seen on SNL, those camera issues were so bad that it clearly threw them off Hoodie sketch was cute Teacher sketch was funny, Ego is so good. Big night for Punkie Not a great episode but Megan actually did a great job, she's super charming and actually did a solid job with the acting. Writing let her down
It’s mainly just me not having my finger on the pulse of modern top 40 music, but I wish SNL would have more rock on the show. I feel like it’s just the same pop stars and hip hop artists over and over again…and an indie act here and there. I know I sound like Grandpa Simpson yelling at the clouds for existing, but I’d love more variety in the musical guest department.
I actually liked this episode a lot, started out rough with that long cold open but hit a stride immediately after. Fell apart a little with the workout sketch and the hoodie pretape but I liked pretty much everything else The musical sketch made me realize that pretty much all of the people known for doing those are gone now. I wonder if those will become less common for a while outside of musician hosted episodes Would be awesome if it didn’t take having a Black host for Punkie to get more screen time. She was great this week Chloe and Heidi crushed the WU bit. It’s strange that this is now the third week in a row where one of the new cast members goes on WU and basically does stand up. Not sure how I feel about that. But being from AZ I really related to Devon’s perspective lol
I actually think this is the best job showcasing the new cast that they've done in years, maybe ever since I started watching. Feels like they're deliberately introducing them one by one and they're integrating them into sketches really well too
That is true, and I thought she was great. Just wish there was a little more of it, instead of obvious pop stars and hip hop stars.
I'm sure most of you are aware of it already, but Dana Carvey and David Spade's podcast "Fly on the Wall" is really good; often when they have an SNL-related guest they end up just riffing on old SNL stories and sketches from their past, and it's so cool to get insight into all of that during their times on the show.
I thought the latest episode was pretty solid. The only sketch for me that was a complete miss was the work out one. Megan was really good throughout.
Conan’s latest podcast episode features Kevin Nealon, and it’s chock full of silliness and stupidity and is fantastic Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend: Kevin Nealon Returns on Apple Podcasts
