I just got home. Haven't watched the actual episode yet (will tomorrow) but that was one of the coolest and most surreal experiences of my life. I will absolutely never look at the show the same way again. They use every inch of that studio (which was weirdly bigger than I thought it would be), building the sets all across the floor and against like every wall. Because of this you don't really have a good view for most of the sketches from the upper seats where I was, but there's monitors everywhere so you can still see everything. I actually did my best to avoid looking at the monitors though so I could really take everything in and see it in a way that I otherwise never would. Before the show starts they bring out Michael Che to warm up the audience, then Kenan came out and sang a song with Chloe, Ego and Heidi as his backing vocalists. Lorne then casually walked out and talked to a bunch of people and it was pretty surreal to see someone so rich and powerful so close up lol

I found it really interesting to look at the cast members when they knew they weren't on camera, some of them totally stayed in character but others would just clearly enjoy the sketch and smile. Chloe especially seems like an absolute sweetheart, she stayed to the side after all of her scenes and applauded her fellow cast members. I even kinda talked to her on the way out, when we were being filed out Melissa and Chloe were kind of just hanging out in the hallway and then Chloe walked directly in front of me and I couldn't think of what to say so I just said she was great tonight lol and she said thank you and smiled, and needless to say I now have a huge crush on her

This was seriously something I've wanted to do since I was 12 years old and the experience was so fucking cool and worth it. Even if the episode itself wasn't great, which I kinda get the feeling it wasn't, just seeing how everything works and comes together makes me feel bad about anytime I've ever said anything bad about the show. It's an incredibly well-oiled machine with literally like 100 crew members working their asses off for the entire time (two hours for dress rehearsal and then another hour and a half for the actual show), nobody is ever sitting still on that stage while they're on air. I can't wait to watch the actual episode tomorrow and see what changed and what didn't make it, and I'll let you guys know what I remember that didn't make it to air too. I have some predictions lol, there were a couple that absolutely bombed

Really hope I get to do this again at some point

Solid episode, I thought this was the most aggressive and funny Weekend Update in a long time. Chloe was also all over, which was great.

  11. The Chuck E Cheese and Understudy ones were fun, and Update staying short and sweet felt refreshing

Was that supposed to be a Sam Elliot impression in the Blue Bunny sketch?

My girls think Harry Styles for sure for finale - as hes in NYC for one night performing.

COuld he do both though? No. He doesnt have the time for it.

So we think Bill Hader/Harry Styles.

Watched the episode. It's so weird that it was technically new but it felt like my second time watching it lol

Here’s what I remember that was cut after the dress rehearsal:

    - Punkie Johnson played Brittney Griner calling in by satellite on Weekend Update. Even though the piece was calling attention to her plight and made points about how if it were LeBron James instead of her we would have gone to war, it ultimately kind of seemed like it was in poor taste so I’m not surprised it got cut. Feel bad for Punkie though, she never gets anything on

    - There was a sketch where Benedict and Aidy were newscasters, and while reporting the news about Roe v Wade Aidy says “I had one” and then continues like she didn’t say anything. They then cut to various other correspondents who also all share their abortions in the middle of their reports. Not hilarious but I still thought it would make it into the show because of the content. This one was cool to see though because due to cutting to different reporters they had different sets and it spanned the entire studio

    - A sketch where Benedict played a professor interviewing to work at the Smithsonian with Chris, Ego and Aidy as the board members. Aidy goes through his Facebook page to do a background check and finds various memes that he posted using the n-word (censored obviously, they said “n-word”) and other “black” slang. Chris and Ego get mad and he tries to defend himself and say he’s dedicated to the art of memes and believes anyone should be able to use them to express themselves. There was promise here but the execution didn’t really land for the audience so I expected it not to make it

    - Unfortunately the dress rehearsal ended with two duds in a row after the second Arcade Fire performance. The first was a group of college friends (Heidi, Chris, Bowen and Ego I think) who were joined by their old friend played by Kate and her new boyfriend played by Benedict. Basically the joke is that they are clearly spies but keep saying they can’t talk about their work and what they do but also drop extremely obvious hints on purpose because they want to brag about their cool jobs. I could see this one being repurposed with another host if they improve the jokes, I do like the premise

    - Last one was pretty much unsalvageable, it was Benedict and Ego as the stars of an action movie and Kyle as their new CGI sidekick who is hanging from a harness and floating next to them and farting and delivering catchphrases. The character is supposed to be annoying and unfunny but the actual jokes in the sketch weren’t great either, and even though Kyle really committed to this (he hung upside down on the wires for a really long time and also was spun really fast) it just died in the studio and I would have been shocked if it made it in

They also really shuffled the order of the stuff that did make it in, the ice cream one that was towards the beginning was almost at the end of the dress rehearsal, and the Chloe impression sketch was more towards the middle so it was interesting to see it repurposed as the 5 to 1. It was also a lot longer in dress, they cut part of her Cecily impression and there was a whole bit after Benedict thought the multiverse was real where he tried to do magic but it didn't work. The sketch with Cecily fainting was also one of the first ones we saw but it was moved to after Update here. We also didn't get that weird surprise Arcade Fire performance at the end, it just ended like usual for us

Not a great episode. Most of the singing sketches are bad. Also weekend update has been short a lot of this season to whoever said that.
