Seltzer sketch was great. Overall bad episode. There was some decent writing but kim couldn’t pull any of it off.
I love Alex Moffat’s LSD Weekend Update character. Please Don’t Destroy was great. I pray that I never have to watch another sketch with a Kardashian or their show’s lingo.
Damn was not expecting the Please Don’t Destory sketch. That was great. Honestly the episode was way better than I thought it would be overall.
This had moments but the lows were pretty unredeemable. Also as much as I love the PDD guys and their sketch, seeing so much screen time go to non-cast members throughout the episode when the cast is already too big was a bummer. Loved the Alex desk character though lmao. JAJ crushed the opening too
I think I’ve loved every Please Don’t Destroy twitter vid but that seltzer one didn’t do much for me unfortunately
yeah those guys are really funny and even though it was probably the only good part of the show for me, it wasn't that great.
I wouldn’t call this ep “good” but Kim did way better than expected. The monologue especially, it felt like a bunch of jokes that the writers pitched expecting her to reject them, but she just rolled with it. This was nowhere near the same level of awful as the Elon ep The seltzer sketch has the exact same rhythm and joke beats as all of the other big sketches by those guys. So while it’s not bad, if you’ve watched what else they’ve done, it did just kinda feel like them rehashing what got them on in the first place which w/e still funnier than most SNL sketches lol
There were some decent jokes in the monologue but kim has no timing and just ran through them so quickly.
Wonder if any or all of the Please Don't Destroy guys will make the cast in the next year or two. I think it's pretty rare that they put a full sketch of non-cast members on, the only examples I can really think of besides them is Mike O'Brien before he joined the cast and all the way back to Albert Brooks
I was thinking the same thing, but I think they can get a pass with it being the first appearance. Have to imagine 90%+ (honestly might be 99%) of people watching have never seen one of their skits, so it’s not unreasonable to throw up something they/the show know is going to work when only a small portion of viewers will recognize it as a rehash. Hopefully they branch out as they keep writing.
I would think a bunch of people (including me) saw their names as new writers, googled a bit, and realized - Hey, who are they! And they tell people, and so on.... And I would bet that they have a LOT of new followers now. This is how stars are made right? (I got back to Lonely Island)
Also two of the PDD guys are sons of former SNL writers. One of them is Steve Higgins' son, another is the son of Tim Herlihy (frequent Sandler collaborator, co-wrote Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer, Big Daddy, The Waterboy, Hubie Halloween, and others)
I re-read this thread going way back - and had to re-read about "Good Neighbor". I had no idea.... OMG.
The only other example I can think of is John Mulaney got his own recurring segment on Weekend Update.
I’m late but this was clearly worse than last week. The nepotism aspect with those seltzer guys leaves me really sour about them getting their own sketch, especially one that’s average. With a cast this big they can’t keep giving time that stuff. Also fire Che and Jost still
I get the nepotism part, but they’ve proven themselves to be legitimately funny on their own. Though I’m sure their connections helped them get the spots easier, it also seems like SNL’s casting this leaned heavier on popular Twitter and web comedians, which they are. And I think enough people enjoyed the skit to justify its existence. I mean, Lonely Island’s first sketch was about eating a head of lettuce for comfort.
Sure nepotism or whatever but their twitter videos are funnier than just about anything this show has produced in 20 years. Just wish this one was better
