Same, I don't think that's too hot of a take haha. HOWEVER, I did find it *slightly* more amusing after I lived in California.
“The Californians” was funny the first time. Then they kept on doing it with no added twist to it. I was so mad they did a 10 minute version of it at the 40th anniversary where Taylor Swift and Bradley Cooper totally bombed. The worst.
Ugh, yes. What a waste of all the talent in the room. I wonder if we'll get a 50th anniversary special.
I found it pretty funny every time. Especially when Fred or someone else would get Hader to break while trying to make his dumb face at the camera
Californians was hit or miss for sure, I always loved Whats Up With That I also thought the Vogelchecks was a pretty funny repeating sketch in those times
I would bet that we will since the rumor is that Lorne will retire after that. And Lorne never misses a chance to get a bunch of celebrities in a room to celebrate him.
Haha that's true. Would make sense for him to head out after that. This is morbid, but I wonder how many of the older cast members we lose in the next few years before the 50th
I think that would be another reason why they'd do it - bring some of the old folks back one last time, get Eddie Murphy out of his house and give his ego one last massive massage.
Even at the time people didn't really like The Californians to my memory, they did it SO much and it was the same fucking thing every time. It weirdly became like fondly remembered afterwards I did always enjoy What's Up With That though
I dont htink I Was a fan of either Whats up.. or Californians. I think Kristen Wiig anooys me. Shes funny in Bridesamids, sure, but I wasnt watching at this time, so I guess I missed the humour of her on SNL. My girls LOVE Bill Hader though, so.. anything he does is great, for them. There are certain sketches that get redone over and over and are not funny.
Love Kristen in Bridesmaids and a ton of stuff she's done after SNL. But while watching seasons 34-38, it was extremely clear that she was the preferred cast member. It's utterly insane how much screen time she used to get per episode. And sooooo many Sue and Target Lady recurrences.
Hahah. Like with most of her characters, I liked Penelope a lot the first time. Just depreciated quicker and more heavily than others
Always interesting to hear an outsider’s take on hosting. Much like WWE post-Vince McMahon, I really feel like whoever steps in next has a chance to streamline things and cut out the unnecessary “traditions” that make the cast and writers lose their minds.
I feel like the show dies with Lorne at this point, this is assuming he ever dies haha but yeah probably not ideal that they're so sleep deprived that this happens as much as it's my favorite thing ever
I still think Seth Meyers will take it over and pass Late Night on to someone else. It’s not like Fallon will give up the Tonight Show gig.
I think it was on Conan’s podcast that Tina Fey said the production process only made sense when it was the 70s and everyone was constantly doing coke
Finally watched the finale, and really liked it. Honestly got kinda emotional at the beginning with Cecily. Wasn’t she also not in the beginning of this season due to her filming something? Or was that last season....
Um... so I got Brooks Wheelan on my podcast this week. Episode 68 - National Parks (Feat. Brooks Wheelan)
Anyone want two tickets to John Mulaney at City Winery in NYC this Friday at 7pm? They are face value tickets to the sold out show up by the stage ($89.70 each). Had to buy 4 tickets but could only get 1 person to commit to going.
