"SNL" writer Sam Jay is also gonna have an HBO Max talk show about "perspectives" and apparently one ep is gonna talk "cancel culture." I'm sure I'll want to jump out of a window for that.
love to watch wealthy comedians with jobs at a network television institution rail against the evils of cancel culture whiny crybabies
I'll take one for the team as this thread's former, and I must heavily emphasize FORMER, Michael Che apologist.
The Michael Che show isn't bad at all. Has some stuff that exemplifies why people criticize him but it mostly stays away from that. Not hilarious or anything but it made me laugh more than a lot of SNL stuff does and had some sorta nuanced points about issues. There's an episode where one of Che's friends is shot and they're trying to find a way to get to the hospital without taking an ambulance because it's so expensive but they keep on having troubles because they don't have masks. The point isn't not to wear masks but as Che explains, that for a lot of black people in inner-cities, the idea of being shot to death seems like a more immediate threat to their life than COVID. There's an episode that uses vaccination to explore skepticism in the black community that does something similar. Even the joke about being "cancelled" in the trailer ends up leading to a punchline making fun of the idea of being a confrontational shock comedian just trying to offend people. Again, obviously this doesn't really change anything about how Che's carried himself in the public but I enjoyed the show more than I expected to. Though, I can comfortably say that the people in this thread who are disgusted by the idea of watching it probably won't. Iono. I feel weird saying that I enjoyed it despite the problematic elements.
You're a dick. Like genuinely, you're a dick. Figure out how to talk to people without belittling them for sharing an honest impression. Having good politics does not absolve you from being an asshole.
I recognize that Michael Che is an asshole but I enjoyed the show. I genuinely just wanted to take one for the team and I ended up enjoying the show more than anticipated, given that the trailer was bad.
Sorry. I guess I was just prepared for everyone to snark and shit on me and got defensive, especially considering how much I was clowned in the past. I dunno why, but it felt weirdly vulnerable to talk about my impressions of a dumb TV. I was out of pocket though. It was a pretty funny juxtaposition now that you point it out.
