Who do you guys think could take over Update if they hypothetically left after this season

I know it's early for him but I could see Dismukes doing a decent job

 

I think Chris would be fun but I don’t want to stop being in sketches

 

Ego and Heidi for update please

 

Ego would be awesome but she’s probably the best in sketches this season.

 

Melissa would bring a unique spin to update that it has never had before I think.

And unlike Ego or Heidi, they really never figured out how to use Melissa properly in sketches, so I would like to see what she would do with control over Update.

 

Melissa would definitely be great especially since she has barely been in sketches lately. I could see Alex doing really well too but he's probably better off in sketches

 

Melissa is the only one who I wouldn't miss in sketches, mostly because they never use her properly in sketches. I would absolutely not want Heidi or Chris or Alex or Ego behind the Update desk because they're people who I enjoy in sketches.

Update would give Melissa an outlet for her talent that she isn't getting at present and I think she'd do something totally different than any other Update anchors have done before. I think she's the clear choice, honestly.

 

Yeah unfortunately all of the current cast that I’d like to see run Update are the ones I think are also the best in sketches or have the desk characters I’d miss the most

That said, it would be nice to have a couple of people with some natural chemistry again. Never been a fan of the solo Updates, and the Jost/Che pairing has always even at their best felt like a shot at an “unlikely duo” haha. Not that we need two white anchors but you imagine if it was like Kate and Aidy or something? Every week would rule

 

I would be cool if they had Melissa take over and went outside the show to hire someone to do it with her.

I also think Melissa doing it solo would be fine as well. I think the days of Solo Update are over forever though.

I loved Dennis Miller solo, but thats when I was totally into SNL. He had that 'intellectual/pompous humour' Norm was good too. Kevin was meh.

I stopped watching when Colin, Fallon/Fey/Pohehler/Myers were there.

I guess I tune in to Jost/Che to see the trainwreck. Which brings people to watch.

A single host? Sure. I liked Dennis. I liked the sketches with Spade/Sandler/et al., Hysterical (to me).

Could I see Melissa go solo? Sure. Would she want to?

I say no, keep Bowen in sketches and doing desk pieces.

 

Melissa Villasenor and Andrew Dismukes - get that big sister, little brother dynamic feel to it.

 

have Mulaney show up behind the update desk in a shoot and start hosting and never acknowledge it

 

His previous "I Love It"'s on Weekend Update remain great.

 

Wouldn't mind Bowen doing Update. Mostly because I don't find him funny in pretty much any of the sketches I've seen him in. I think he might do a good job on Update though.

 

It’s all pretty moot anyway tbh, I don’t think anyone’s going anywhere for a little while. Now that we’re done with the Trump admin the show has stopped leaning on political sketches at every turn which is making way for more original jokes/ideas. The back half of this season has felt like the most fun they’ve consistently had since the run up to the 2016 election. Plus Lorne has seemed to cool it on letting the seasoned players have other projects while doing the show
