Not trying to throw shade at him at all, I think Dismukes wasn't bad this week and made the most of getting a bunch more screentime, but I often wonder how some of these featured players that don't go anywhere even got on the show in the first place. Like what could Dismukes possibly have done in his audition that made Lorne say "Yeah, this guy"?
Dismukes was a writer on the show for a few years before he was cast. Bowen was too, they do that semi-often I believe even Jason Sudeikis was hired as a writer before he was on the cast
I believe Tim Robinson was originally a writer, then became a cast member, then demoted back to writer only. Look how he turn out.
Luke Null talked about how he auditioned as more of a music-based comedian, which they were impressed by and proceeded to almost never use him in that context. I think whatever strengths Dismukes showed in his audition haven’t really shown on air. But I feel the same about Punkie and Lauren Holt too. The cast is too full right now.
SNL has definitely been doing some backfilling the past 2 years. They have many seasoned vets who could leave at any time (Keenan, Kate, Cecily, Aidy).
I’m coming around on Dismukes lately. Still not sold on Lauren or Punkie at all though Major lack of Melissa lately which is a bummer
Yeah I think they're extremely (and rightfully) worried about being caught flat-footed in a potential nightmare scenario where all four of those stars, easily the four biggest stars of the cast right now, just up and leave all at once
So if Cecily, Keenan, Kate, and Aidy all bail the same time (say this year), we are left with Beck, Kyle, Melissa, Mikey, Heidi, Alex, Ego, Chris, Pete, Andrew, Chloe, Lauren, and Punkie? Is that enough star power? Who would step up to fill the shoes?
They'd be fine, imo. Beck just had his best episode in years, Chloe and Heidi are on the verge of breaking out, and Bowen and Pete definitely have some star power
Kenan's not gonna leave, if he didn't leave to do his own sitcom this year then I don't see it happening lol I could definitely see Cecily, Aidy and Kate leaving after this season. Potentially Beck and/or Kyle too, and maybe even Pete. I definitely think the stars of the next age of SNL are Chloe, Ego, Redd and Heidi. Bowen is showing a ton of potential too
Bowen has such a unique energy that the show really needs. I hope he becomes a big player on the show.
Between that Hot Ones and his episode of Conan's podcast, I think this week was the first time I ever heard Kenan say "fuck"
He did Going Off Track a few years back and said it a bunch there. Was surprisingly disorienting haha
