Stealing jokes really sucks and it’s a bummer that SNL writers have been (probably correctly) accused of it many times, but the Zillow bit is an awful pitch if you want me to check out the rest of your comedy
You never heard of Ted Alexandro? not saying it was deliberately stolen or not, but definitely not the first time SNL has been accused of this. Also, as someone who literally checks out Zillow multiple times per day, I’ve never heard this joke angle about the website.
Didn’t watch live last night but so cool for Update to do a bit about how “cancel culture” has gone too far the week after Che makes a transphobic af “joke” and immediately before Che made a prison r*pe joke.
I have heard of Alexandro, though I’m not extremely familiar with him. Maybe poor phrasing on my part, but the “me” there was not meant to literally mean specifically myself And yeah I acknowledged that lol SNL has stolen numerous bits haha
The joke is also just a slightly dressed up version of people saying things like “you know you’re getting old when a new vacuum cleaner for your birthday is exciting” or like Gaffigan’s bit about the Food Network being like porn haha. Hardly original stuff
Idk why anyone would give SNL writers the benefit of the doubt here, they’re notorious for stealing jokes throughout the show’s history. Whether you personally think it’s a good joke or not, the odds are pretty good that they heard it from Alexandro.
Literally no one has denied that lol. We can acknowledge that SNL steals jokes while also acknowledging that the joke they probably stole was hacky to begin with
Can’t tell if y’all are incapable of focusing on two things at once or if you’re just working overtime to extract things from posts that aren’t there. No one said it’s okay that SNL steals jokes. Either way this is a dumb conversation and I’ll drop it
This post implies that, simply because the joke was in your opinion not original, that means that it’s less likely they stole it and more likely it was parallel thinking. You can walk it back now, that’s fine, but that’s what you said lol.
Um... no it doesn’t? What an odd way to comprehend that post. At no point in that post or elsewhere was it implied that SNL got the joke from anyone but Alejandro. At the same time, we can acknowledge that the joke Alejandro told was already hacky to begin with. Two separate things man, this is not hard
Lmao the whole post is about how the premise of the joke is not original and thus could have come from anywhere but ok!
God, you like almost get it. You’re so close I never said or even remotely implied that SNL lifted the specific Zillow joke from anywhere besides Alejandro’s set, or that it was merely parallel thinking. SNL notoriously steals jokes and everyone knows it, and it is more than fair to assume they got this one from him. Stay with me here — at the same time, and as a fully separate thought (clearly indicated by being a fully separate post), Alejandro’s joke sucks because it is simply a reskin of other tired jokes. That’s it! Two separate things!
I thought this was a solid episode. The cold open, universal tour guide, zillow, and football songs all got me laughing. Phoebe crushed it too.
