Very surprised they didn't have Pete play the Mr. Robot guy until now (I don't watch the show lol), and that was so awesome basing a whole sketch around Leslie's situation. Loved that

This episode started off incredibly strong, and while it did drop off a bit after Weekend Update, it was probably the strongest premiere episode (an aspect SNL has always kind of struggled with) in a long time. Margot Robbie did a really great job, The Weeknd was awesome (I'm a big fan though), and the new cast members made pretty solid first impressions, especially Mikey Day who I can already tell is going to do great on this show.

    Very happy with this episode.

Mikey Day fit right in, pretty much occupying the Taran role. Not sold on the other two yet. Melissa Villasenor's one appearance was totally shoehorned in.

This episode fucking rocked. Wow, I trashed them all summer and they pull me back in, of course. I need to know that Britanick wrote "Action 9 News." I know they did. I know they did.

"I believe you were referring to the couple that was interviewed. I was wondering about the sinkhole."
"Oh...it's pretty much always underground water."

Best episode in years. Wonderfully versatile performance from Robbie, great premieres for all three features (especially rapidly rising star Mikey Day), and three always-rock solid guest spots to boot. Everything hit hard, yet they pandered less; they tried a lot new things content-wise (especially on Update, though not all of it hit), and still got a lot of laughs consistently through. In all honesty, the more I think about it, this is about as a show like SNL can get to whatever people mean when they call an episode of something 'perfect.' It hit all the beats I subconsciously hope for (hell, even The Weeknd was in the zone) from this show. The final cherry on top was the chemistry between the cast, man, I mean, no Bayer, but man, breaking in almost all the sketches tonight, even Update and hell, the monologue seemed close too. Just a great energy that, to me, signifies a coming creative resurgence for the show.

Blah, big analytical ramble, Maybe a peak season, maybe I'm optimistic and hasty. Let's see if they can sustain the magic next week (with what will surely be a hell of a host, so they're starting a couple points up).

I caught the last Weeknd song and the Mr. Robot sketch at the end, which I thought was really engaging. After hearing all of the rave reviews in this thread, I'm excited to check out the rest of the episode tomorrow when it pops up online.

That's the worst sketch of the episode.

You really thought that was worse than Hunch Bunch or the Round Table one? I thought those were the only noticeably weaker sketches

The sinkhole sketch had the same basic premise as a College Humor sketch that came out a week ago. SNL did it way better, but is it really that basic of idea for two writer's rooms to do the same premise within a week of eachother?

I liked the episode a lot and really liked the two Weeknd songs. They were my first time hearing both.

I'd say the sinkhole skit had a premise that I saw coming a mile away the second the 'couple' appeared on camera (and it's not particularly new - a Scrubs episode immediately came to mind as I watched the SNL skit), so it's possible they came up with the idea independently of the skit above, but then I'm not interested enough to see how similar the two are. Timing isn't great though.

Great episode but I missed the very last sketch. It was spoofing Mr Robot?

Edit: I just watched it, that was awesome
