Did Cove write lyrics/vocal melodies on the S/T? If so, it's actually pretty impressive Saosin was able to find some young kid that not only had a strong voice but was actually a super talented songwriter too. The vocal melodies on the S/T are just as insanely good as the guitar work is.
I think Chris helped write lyrics on the album. I also think Howard helped with some melodies too. I just don’t know to what extent for either of them
After all the discussion here, I listened to the self-titled today. I really hope they repress this album soon, and with them playing it in full at when we were young fest, I hope we get a tour to celebrate the 20th anniversary in 2026. They are currently touring with Cove in Asia and he sounds so good. It seems like the lack of pressure (and Justin’s removal from the band) is a big factor. Honestly, he sounds better than ever
You guys been listening to the new ghost atlas tracks? I feel like there's so many similarities between cove-era saosin and that band
I wasn’t, but just added the new album after this description and this is fire. holding absence has kind of scratched that itch but this guy sounds like cove haha
jesse's voice is unbelievable and my favorite disciple of cove/anthony (dude learned how to sing off self titled and juturna and it shows lol). first time i heard of ghost atlas/erra was from a cove interview where he was like "this erra guy sounds so much like me except he sings way better than i can", and as a saosin devotee i was instantly sold and erra became my favorite band of like three years lol the new songs havent blown me away tbh but theyre definitely solid
oh yeah the singer of ghost atlas is also the singer, guitarist, and main songwriter in erra. if progcore is your style, their self titled is maybe the best album ive heard of its kind lol and going off the music video it looks like ghost atlas now is everyone in erra but jt lol
I’m pretty sure it is getting a re-press - it seems to be in some SmartPunk membership, but one assumes it ties into a wider re-release. Which would make sense given the recent TTN pressings. https://smartpunkshop.com/products/...LucTqtEiFgqvpchZN8MNWlR_TBk4yPCcV7Ovw=.TeCqyB
Looks like Cove has a new side project called Le Tired and just released a new single My Seasonal Ghost.
can see myself coming back to this, and their bio mentions their plans to "release a song per month", looking forward to at least one more
Listening to In Search of Solid Ground for the first time. Even knowing that the production process was messy, it's shocking just how much this feels like a band with no sense of direction or what they want to be.
As a staunch defender of this record, it just feels like an attempt to become a major alt rock band without losing their roots. All of their albums cover several genres, this just goes a little further. It is less consistent than their other records but also has some of their most underrated, brilliant songs.
To me it feels more like they threw everything at the wall and instead of seeing what sticks, they just used it all. It's a long album with multiple songs where they just fully give themselves over the producer/cowriter's style ("What Were We Made For?" especially). That can work for some bands, but for a band that burst onto the scene as fully formed as they did, it feels like a major step back.
